John Rabe: When Oprah speaks, millions listen, should we?
Coral Ridge Ministries presents, Learn to Discern, with John Rabe.
John Rabe: She may be the world’s most influential women. Oprah Winfrey is a media superstar watch d by some 46 million people each week. When she speaks, people listen, and they buy. Oprah places her blessing in January on the book, “A New Earth”, by new age author Eckhart Tolle, and sales towards more than 3million.
Winfrey is an art and disciple of Tolle, and his new age spirituality, and she joined him recently for 10-week interactive Webcast, watched by more than a half million viewers and a 139 countries. Listen to this exchange, between Oprah and her instructor.
Eckhart Tolle: As a simple meditation, repeats the words I am to yourself.
Oprah Winfrey: It is so powerful. I started to that, it is so powerful.
Eckhart Tolle: Yes, and do not fill in the b lank after the words.
John Rabe: But “I Am” is a biblical term, reserve for God. As Eric Thoennes, professor of Biblical Studies at Talbot School of Theology explained.
Eric Thoennes: Eckhart Tolle is drawing from what the bible says, is the sacred name of God, the Great I Am, that most certainly describes God as the basis of existence, self existence, and self-sufficiency that He is all powerful and He is eternal. Jesus uses His name to describe Himself, when He says, before Abraham was I Am.
John Rabe: So in essence, Tolle is teaching that we are all God, something that for most of us who struggle to pay bills, and control our kids. Not to mention our wait, it is pretty far fetch, even more disturbing as what Tolle tells Oprah about death.
Oprah Winfrey: So you believe what happens to us, a death, when the body dies? You do not have a belief?
Eckhart Tolle: I do not give it at any thought.
Oprah Winfrey: You do not?
Eckhart Tolle: No.
John Rabe: Dr. Thoennes responds to Tolle’s disregard for death.
Eric Thoennes: It is tragic to me that Eckhart Tolle has not thought about what happens to us when we die, or what happens to the body, as if it is an irrelevant question and it does not matter at all. There is no more profound in an important question to what happens to us, when we die and God tells us, we face Him, either in our own sin, needing to pay that penalty ourselves, or because of the blood of Jesus. We can face and forgiven, and declare the righteous in His sight.
John Rabe: Despite what Tolle thinks or does not think about God, we will all meet our maker, above that we can have no choice, but we can choose now to repent, and to accept the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ.
If you have not done that, I urge you to do so today. I hope this will help you learn to discern. For Coral Ridge Ministries, I am John Rabe.
