In 1901, Emanuel Cohen and Gerald Rosenberg opened Cohen and Rosenberg in New York City, offering jewelry and accessories. The men registered the name Coro , a combination of the first syllable of each of their last names, in 1921. In 1935, the Coro Duette, a cleverly designed brooch where two separate pins could be worn separately, was introduces fro the first time. During World War II, the availability of rhinestones was limited so you can date some of Coro jewelry to this period by the use of seed pearls or just one or two rhinestones for decoration. They are known for its jelly belly pins, animals with a clear acrylic stone in or near their bellies. There are reproductions of jelly belly pins available today, so buy with care. Battered by changing tastes and lowered pricing, production of Coro jewelry in the United States ceased in 1979. Many well known designers produces jewelry under the Coro name. These designers include Oscar Placco, Gene Verecchio, Francois, Pearl, and Gaba.
