One very important part of cheerleading is motions. You use your motions in your cheers, your chant and in your dance. When you are hitting your motions, you always want to make sure they are very sharp and very precise. The perfect way to practice these motions is with motion drills.
The first one we are going to teach you is called the Starburst. Candy is going to demonstrate it for you now. [Demonstration] 5,6,7,8,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10 hips. Perfect, Candy. We are going to talk you through these motions very slowly. So, we are going to call [Demonstration] 5,6,7,8 on 1, Candy is going to hit a clasp. You want to make sure your hands are very tight. Your elbows are in tight to your sides. She is going to hit a dagger position first. Your small doughnut holes are facing out; elbows are in tight, from there back to a clasp. Now, she is going to hit a touch down motion. You want to make sure you are squeezing the arms in tight, small doughnut holes are facing out, back down to a clasp.
Now, we are going to hit a high V. The high V, both arms are out wide. You want to make sure that you can see the fist out of the corners of your eyes. That means they are just a little bit forward, not too far back. From there, she is going to bring it back to a clasp. Now, she is going to hit a T motion. The T motion, your arms are leveled with the ground. You still want to have them just a little bit forward, so you can see them at the corners of your eyes. From there, she is going to clasp again.
Now, she is a going to hit a low V motion. Low V is exactly the same as the high V, it is just low. And from there, she is going to hit hips. Let us try it up to speed. [Demonstration] 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 hips. Nice job, Candy.
Now, we are going to teach you Starburst Number 2. This motion drill has little more advanced motions, so Candy is going to demonstrate it for you now. [Demonstration] 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 hips. Very nice, Candy.
So, we are going to call it the same way. We are going to start, [Demonstration] 5, 6, 7, 8 on 1, Candy is going to clasp under her chin. She is going to hit on the first motion in L motion. With the L, one arm is straight-up in a punch and the other arm is out like a T. From there, she is going to bring it back to a clasp. Now, she is going to hit the other L on the other side, exact same thing. From there, she is coming back to a clasp.
The next motion is the diagonal. Now with the diagonal, one arm is up in a high V, and one arm is down in a low V, back to a clasp. The other diagonal now, the same thing, just the opposite side. From here, back to a clasp, she is going to hit a right cross. Now with the cross, you have one arm across your body, the other arm up in a high V. Now drop your arms for just a second, Candy. She is hitting a launch position here.
Now three important things with the launch position; you want to make sure that the knees are over the ankle, your shoulders are facing forward and the back leg is perfectly straight, okay?
So, the back is in the cross position. From here, she is going to bring it back up to a clasp, the legs go straight and now she hits the cross on the other side, hitting the launch on the other side. And from there, she comes back to hips. Let us show it one more time, Candy. [Demonstration] 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 hips, 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 hips, 5, 6 ,7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 hips. Perfect.
