Many of you are trying to be very organic in the garden these days and one of the things you can do, this is pretty easy, it is just a compost. Get some grass clippings here we have got a compost activator. We are going to go down to the compost pile and tell you just how easy it is to do this.
So we are down here at the composter, it is actually not even a compost pile, it is a composter. And I got this from the town I live in and many of your towns will have this. If they do not ask around, you can also go online and find the composter. This is basically simply this big, heavy duty all wedder polyurethane plasticky kind of thing that I end up putting a lot of things like the grass clippings actually goes in there. And I keep my table scrap. These are things like egg shells and corncobs and orange peels. It is actually fruits and vegetables. You do not want to be putting meat in here and this also gets dumped in here.
There is basically if you think about it, there are basically two main types of things you are mixing in here. One are dry goods and one are wet goods so the grass is wedder and the things that come from the food in the kitchen, those are wedder. Then you have things like my dry leaves and dead grass and things like that, and you are mixing these in together so that also goes in there.
Now, eventually, if you just threw that in and wed it, it would break down. But one of the things you can do is you can add something called compost activator and this is basically adding natural bacteria that kind of help breakdown the food a little bit more. The other thing that you want to always be doing is you want to be turning your compost pile. Because what will happen is that it will get depleted of oxygen so you want to mix things up so that you bring in new air in to it constantly. So every few days, go in it. I actually have a stick here that I take and I put this in, mix it around and then I turn the compost pile. That helps to move everything around and you also want to keep it wet.
Wait just a few weeks. Sometimes in the warm weather, it takes us little as four to six weeks and then you go down to the little door, you open it up and you have just amazing soil that is wonderful to add in the garden. And while we are planting later on, we are going to use this to plant our vegetables.
