The way you would do it is in the same way that I teach my students in terms of sight-reading is that you actually have different hit points or different patterns or how do I put it. Like different locations throughout the guitar where you memorize some notes and then the notes that are in between the notes that you just fill the bridge from one note to the next and then that is how you know. So let us see this together guys, okay here is what I am talking about.
Let us move my piano back, let us take this guitar. Now the notes, the open string notes on a guitar, let me do – these are E A D G B E. What should I learn? Oh. you are playing bass or are you playing guitar because you only wrote A E D G which should be a bass, let me know. Guitar, okay, E A D G B E, right, so let me move this down so everyone can see who is watching the archives video that they know what is going on when someone writes something. So let me just go down here, do a select capture, and move it down here so that the chat room is in real time. Okay, so let us take this E A D G B E. I know that the notes are here, E A D G B E. Now, there are 12 notes in music and they all go up by half steps so A, A sharp, B, C, C sharp, D, D sharp E, F, F sharp, G, G sharp, A. The way that we are going that it works on the guitar is that the guitar on every fret goes up by half steps. So check this out Cheese, you have to use your head. Just think about this logically. It is that if there is half step on the guitar on every fret and there is 12 notes in music, the notes are going to repeat on the 12 fret. The way that I know that this is the 12th fret is because there is dots right here on the guitar. See the dots right there on the side, they are telling me, which fret like there is like third fret, here is like fifth, there is my 12, all right. So here is my 12th fret right here.
Now, if this is my open E string and I play on my 12th fret right here, what note would that be? Well the answer is that it would be an E because think about it, if this is E and I drew 12 half steps just like the 12 notes in music, your 12 fret on any string is going to be the octave. So this is an E and this is an E but this C happens to be an amplifier. So if my over strings here are E A D G B A, then on the 12th fret here of my chains are going to be E A D G B E, you have it? All right, so let us take this further, let us memorize the fifth fret of this string right here. It is your A, the way that I know is E, F, F sharp, G, E sharp, A. Then if I were to continue to the 12, A sharp, G, C, C sharp, E, E sharp, E. So there is my octave E at the 12th fret. Here is my free string E, here is the A. The way that you find out whatever is written – what every note is on the instrument is let us say that you are playing this note here as a tenth fret and I am at the tenth fret right now. Well there are a couple of ways, rather than starting right here and go all the way up or being lost or being like I have no idea where this is, is that you can either go from this 12th fret, which we know is E, which I just told you. Here is your E going back to the 11th fret, E flat. The tenth fret is D. So this D is the tenth fret as D and I could have also started on my A. Which is the fifth fret and went A, A sharp, D, C, C sharp, D. Five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, A, A sharp, B, C, C sharp, D and then you do that with every string if you want to know what the notes are on this five strings here. And they make all six. It is A, E, G, C, D, sorry E and then A so just memorize your open strings E A D G B A, memorize the fifth fret of every string, which is I will say it again and I will say it slow.
