Lauren Perkins: Hi! My name is Lauren; I am from Boarding for Breast Cancer, we are youth-focused education awareness program, it is based out of Los Angeles. However, we have a traveling educational booth that hits up over 25 active sporting events throughout the year. We encourage young people to lead active, healthy lifestyles, and what we do in the booth is we teach young people how to do breast self exams. As this is really important for young women to do a monthly exam, just to really get to know their own body, and so I am going to show you how to do it using the jelly breast molds right here.
First, it is super easy, it takes less than five minutes in the shower. You want to start in your armpit when you do the exams because that’s where your lymph nodes are at. So, you want to take your two fingers, you are going to walk the fingers along your breast and roll; rock and roll and you want to make sure you apply a firm amount of pressure when you do the exam. So, we say, rock and roll so that way you are not missing any areas when you are doing it, just keep going around until you cover the entire breast. You do want to make sure you check underneath the nipple. Again, it is super easy, you should do it ten days after your periods because that’s when you are like bumpy and sore and then you are going to do the second breast. So, it’s just really important to get to know your own body.
