Steve Rieck: This week's lick of the week is a pretty straight forward Blues lick and we will play that in time that will explain it slowly. Such that is the key of E as I played it. And it starts on the fifth of the chord so what you have to do is think of the key of E, normally you think up in the twelfth position for a basic Blues block box in E. But what you have to do to get your barrings here is to find the route of the key ring on the second string, so E is here on the fifth fret of the second string.
So we are going to start, in this case, on the seventh fret of the first string but we are going to be in this fifth position for most of it. So I am straight here in phrases, so I will start with the seventh fret on B of the first string, to the fifth fret and then seventh, sixth, five, so you get and down to eighth fret on the second string. Down to the seventh fret of the third string and then back to five, eight on the second string.
So it's sort of right in the E Blues scale.
The next part is little stagger on so let's say you ended on G on eighth fret of the second string. You are going to cut that one short and then come off with a pull off in fact from eight to five. So you are going to go eight, five or G E on the second string that a D on the seventh fret of the third string to the ninth fret of the fourth string to the fifth fret of the fourth string; so you get.
After that we are going to play a hammer-on and a pull-off from the seventh fret to the eighth fret and back on the fourth string. Then pull off to the fifth fret back to seventh; so you get. And then to the ninth fret of the fourth string to the fifth fret of the fourth string and then seven, five on the fifth string to the fifth fret on the fourth string and then to the seventh fret on the fifth string. So that would end up. Really works for an E 7 or maybe an E minor chord as well.
What are the things to really watch out for that lick is to really excellent that pull-off that goes; so you get -- so that work of E 7.
Let's say you are going to play that over A 7. So here's A at the tenth fret of the second string; so we are going to be on the twelfth fret of the first string. The key there, we are in the key at D, for example, that I have heard the third fret, here's D on the third fret of the second string. So it is like D 7 chord. So I can say that it works over dominance having 7 chord also works over the minor chords and just find your barrings by getting the route on the second string. Start two frets ahead on the first string, you should be on the right spot. So that's the lick of the week.
Hi! this is Giles Martin. I am here at Abbey Road Studio 2 2, talking about revolution. Musically revolution is a homage to John Lennon's influences. It's kind of Chuck Berry on over truck.
Male Speaker: So we are going to start out with a riff based on a B 5 power chord. Your first finger is going to go on the seventh fret of the sixth string, third finger on the ninth fret of the fifth string.
