Life after Having Gynecomastia Surgery
Male: So I will put you in a garment today and take out your stitches and probably I will see from a couple weeks, you know.
Male: And that next appointment is just began just to keep track of it.
Male: Look at how you're healing and all things are coming around, if the appointment gets fewer and fewer. Unfortunately, I miss you guys.
Male: Oh in the terms of the many path pretty much used up to medication, the antibiotics that I don’t refill or anything on medication sides?
Male: No, you're getting beyond the curve now. Oh, as far as good.
Male: So, I’ll just take soaking up?
Male: Yeah, let it reap man.
Male: This is the last time I'm taking this sucker off.
Male: Maybe. It’s like opening up a Christmas package.
Male: Yeah, that looks great man.
Male: Yeah?
Male: I mean the flatness was definitely huge off.
Male: It looks pretty good but its great man. Let takes some stitches out first.
Male: What is it?
Male: Iodine the discoloration—
Male: No, that’s just the bruising, it just stimulating.
Male: You want to be extra careful.
Male: Yeah.
Male: So when I'm in the shower I'm like barely touching it and kind of you know, still kind of shy about it.
Male: That’s okay now. I think that’s okay, it’s all right. The problem when you get flat chest it makes this look good.
Male: I’ll work on that, trust me with that.
Male: The other thing, there isn’t this stigma of a guy than with a girl.
Male: You hear all the time.
Male: Actually, that’s not anything you know, people—men will have as much problem as a –
Male: For the degree of gynecomastia that you had had you're going to look great. There's again two weeks would go start talking about the scar management and that type of thing. There are some things we use that I think you should just start them.
Male: Okay, so it looks good huh?
Male: Excellent. Thank you doctor.
Male: Excellent.
Male: Thank you very much.
Male: I feel that quite of bit a relief. It gave me some relief to know that the doctors look at the progress and it feels that it’s a coming along very nicely and I would say, you know, that was a big step. The first time the doctor seen it after taking out the blobs and yeah, I walk out of here anymore comfortable than I did walked in here.
Male: I feel good. It has been a little over six months since the surgery and I would say from month three on, I really felt that I was coming back to normal and the further away from the surgery, the more I feel that I'm more back to normal. It’s like it feels like it’s been years since the surgery.
In terms of marks and you know, from the blind eyes I’m looking at I have no idea that a surgery took place, so.
Male: Tell us about the surgery, experience and all.
Male: Well, you know, the anticipation of the surgery is by far the worst part of it, kind of came to no pain. The nurse was right there. Actually, she said I was making a few jokes right away and so I felt that I felt pretty good at that point on. And through the support of friends and my girlfriend in that first week or two, you know, you do have some bulbs in you. You have some blood flowing out of you kind of maintain, yeah, and maintain and clean up. And so, I think it was great to have people there especially my girlfriend to be there to help because it would have been, I'm sure it would have been a little bit more difficult after doing that on your own. So with that support and no pain, it was fine.
The best part is now, knowing that it was completely successful and I felt good about it and I look at it. I'm like that that’s show a big difference for me. Invited in a few close friends and both of them have seen obviously, they’ve seen it before and right after and then since then, and I think they're happy. They said, “It looks good, you know, you look”, you know that was something that they were joking around before they knew it was kind of something that was part of me. But then feels like it was that much of a big deal for it because I never really open it up. But they definitely have to see the difference and like “Wow, it looks great”, and I think having that passed now done and then, looking at me in a different way. I feel like, yeah, it’s normal, it’s the way it should be.
Male: Now, you look at these before and after pictures of you. How does it make you feel?
Male: It looks like breasts. I mean, you know, in a different way it just like a little contour. It just a kind of look at it then go, “oh Jesus”. Is that normal? Its just amazing how much has changed.
Male: If you today to look at this picture of you before, what would you have to say to that person?
Male: I would say with very little pain and the right doctor and right strategy about it, and talking it with through with people. It would change your life traumatically without a whole lot of risks, really.
Male: Kevin is a remarkable young man and has gone through this experience as well as anyone could be possibly gone through. I think he had realistic expectations going in and I think he’s really delighted with the outcome. And I think that he’s gaining self-confidence and he’s lack of self-consciousness about his body is really serving him well that will only continue to grow better. He gets further and further away from the surgery experience of having breasts.
I think that he’s pretty normal and then his testing his limits around taking his shirt off like the first time at the swimming pool with the other guys. I think that just that free experience is walking out of thes shadows of hiding. And that he’s just beginning to open and really relax.
Male: I feel a lot better about my body and stuff, you know. I am more or less more comfortable with my chest. I'm able to now, I mean just little things you know anything but I'm able to swimming.
Male: So tell me about the surgery experience.
Male: A lot smoother than I can ever think any type of surgery to go. I mean Dr. Delgado and his staff. I mean they're really good what they did. I've got an IV in and the next day woke up and I was all bandages up. The worst part was the part when they took the drainage tubes out. I almost passed out or something. I started getting all hot. I said, “Hold on, and you just feel like the snake thing coming pointing out of you and you're like, oh it’s just a different feeling” that was probably the most uncomfortable.
What I like about, they're very sensitive to the condition, very understanding. They all know it just you know, the doctor but the whole staff and everything like that because this is kind of something that’s really, really embarrassing to guys.
Male: You recognized that picture?
Male: What comes up in you when you see that the picture of you before?
Male: That doesn’t good as it looks. I don’t know I usually get so angry. Yeah, a little bit, it makes me mad. I just want to—
Male: Think more about it.
Male: I don’t know I would get pissed off that I look like this. To me it was as remarkable just so how much difference it is.
Male: And what is the feeling that comes up in you as you look at the passed surgery?
Male: Things had happened. At least I don’t have to wake up everyday. I'm not concerned about the way it just looks, you know. And now, you want to—its kind of like the life changing event.
Male: Is there any way that has changed your life we haven’t talked about?
Male: Everything, like I said, it’s a life changing event and for some that impact my entire life, every little aspect to it, everything. Everything about my life is changed.
Male: David has clearly made a good recovery. I got the sense that he was actually experienced a lot of relief from the Gynecomastia Surgery and at least that piece of the shame isn't bringing down him anymore. He’s actually made a lot of progress really being much more open and in terms of really moving past the shame that piece of it quite nicely. I think in terms of the Gynecomastia, this has been a huge weight lifted off of his shoulders and it actually impacted a quite positive.
