Life Gear Survival Backpack Review
Tiffany Young: Hi there and welcome to Neo-Fight.tv, the technology review with two points of view. My name is Tiffany Young.
Ben Freedman: And I am Ben Freedman and today is Thursday, September the 14th. And how many times have you been stranded halfway up beside of a mountain with no hope of rescue for several days? Wasn’t that just last week?
Tiffany Young: The last week before the last week, but thanks for asking, yeah.
Ben Freedman: Yeah. The products we’re looking at today, I’ve got to tell you, these are incredibly—if you are like any kind of a backpacker, outdoorsy kind of thing—
Tiffany Young: Outdoorsy, this is a wow product.
Ben Freedman: Or even if you just want to keep something in your car, these are by a company called Life Gear.
Tiffany Young: This is awesome.
Ben Freedman: And, these are the Life Gear Safety Pack, they actually sents us the pack and couple of other little products. But let’s talk about the Pack first.
Tiffany Young: Okay.
Ben Freedman: This is really, really cool, $99.00 buys you this whole pack and it is a backpack and there’s room to put a couple of things in it. But really, it comes complete with all kinds of stuff built in, alarming, huh.
Tiffany Young: Thermometer.
Ben Freedman: To show you—oh, so what do you have there on—
Tiffany Young: And whistle.
Ben Freedman: There’s a whistle, thermometer, there’s a compass. And also, what do you call this thing in here, a magnifying glass. Now, there’s a whistle on here too, but look, it’s also a magnifying glass for starting fires.
Tiffany Young: Oh! Have you actually tried to do that before?
Ben Freedman: Uh, I have not. Is it difficult?
Tiffany Young: Well, let me just say, I took my parents—kids don’t play with fire.
Ben Freedman: Should I bring an answer or anything?
Tiffany Young: Yeah. I took my mom my dad’s magnifier for the longest time and I was like four or five years old out in the yard, I tried to start a fire, it didn’t work, thank God.
Ben Freedman: So you can unzip these things—okay, that’s enough for the whistle, whistle is in timeout.
Tiffany Young: No, because this is because you see a bear. I’m born and raised in Alaska, this is like by ultimate—like pack, I love this. I wish I had this.
Ben Freedman: This kit has, help me out here.
Tiffany Young: Wait a minute.
Ben Freedman: This has everything in it. You’ve got a full on first aid pack, you’ve got a waterproof poncho, you’ve got hygienic kit for like purifying water and that kind of stuff, you have a three-day supply of water and food in here. So there’s water actually and it weighs a little bit. I mean, it’s not a little bit—that’s because there’s water in here.
Tiffany Young: Yeah, it does not—let’s see, it’s not really that heavy, well considering it’s going to keep you alive for three days.
Ben Freedman: There’s a little tool here which is like a Leatherman-type multi-tool for doing all of emergency little repairs.
Tiffany Young: I guess this isn’t a carryon.
Ben Freedman: Well, it’s a backpack, right?
Tiffany Young: I guess you got to have to check it.
Ben Freedman: Yeah, that’s right.
Tiffany Young: You got to check the bag.
Ben Freedman: There is no way you could carry this on because of all the stuff in here.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: There’s a first aid kit down here.
Tiffany Young: Oh, this bag is the best I swear.
Ben Freedman: There’s all of these pockets and in fact, let me open a little pocket here and see if there’s more stuff in here. Look, gloves.
Tiffany Young: Look at this. First aid.
Ben Freedman: First aid.
Tiffany Young: Isn’t that great? Moist towelettes, let’s check these out, anti aseptic.
Ben Freedman: A waterproof bag here if in case you need stuff. So if you’re—oh! Look at this, a respirator mask.
Tiffany Young: What do we need that for?
Ben Freedman: Like if in case you’ve been to—
Tiffany Young: In case of a fire? Get caught in forest fire or elevation?
Ben Freedman: It says here, this respirator mask helps protect against certain particles. Misuse may result in sickness.
Tiffany Young: In case you go to the moon?
Ben Freedman: I can just put this on if you need to do emergency field operation on someone, yeah.
Tiffany Young: Like, you mean on somebody?
Ben Freedman: I don’t know.
Tiffany Young: Now, seriously like, what does that use for?
Ben Freedman: I think those are gloves.
Tiffany Young: Oh, I know that you—
Ben Freedman: It’s in there somewhere. That’s a waterproof pouch. There’s a lot in here, more than we can probably talk about.
Tiffany Young: Holy Molly! Wow!
Ben Freedman: If you’re looking for like a one-stop shop for buying one product, let’s say you’re going on some sort of expedition somewhere, this has everything what--You know what I’m going to do with this? I’ll put it in my car.
Tiffany Young: Check this out.
Ben Freedman: What’s that, signaling mirror?
Tiffany Young: It’s a signaling mirror.
Ben Freedman: Very cool.
Tiffany Young: You see it?
Ben Freedman: And also look, they have this—
Tiffany Young: Or otherwise.
Ben Freedman: Look, if you’ve got an emergency light on the back here, so if you want to—check that out, very cool.
Tiffany Young: Wow!
Ben Freedman: So this has tons of stuff in here for survival. I think you should put one in your car. You just leave it in your car.
Tiffany Young: Absolutely.
Ben Freedman: You know, in case your car breaks down at the side of the road, look, that’s emergency drinking water you’ve just—
Tiffany Young: Okay, every time I—this is like the bag that never ends. It’s like you reach in to the bag and you can keep on—
Ben Freedman: It’s the bag, it’s the never-ending bag.
Tiffany Young: Yeah. Oh, more water.
Ben Freedman: More water. There’s food in there as well somewhere.
Tiffany Young: Really?
Ben Freedman: Uh-hmm.
Tiffany Young: Well, I know there’s a food in here. I haven’t, I going to get to see it.
Ben Freedman: While Tiffany is exploring the safety bag over there—
Tiffany Young: Oh it must be in here.
Ben Freedman: Let me show you a couple of other products that they sent us. This is a really cool little lantern that you charge with this—did you find?
Tiffany Young: Oh, do you know what this is?
Ben Freedman: Heat blanket, emergency blanket?
Tiffany Young: Yeah. Heat blanket.
Ben Freedman: Yeah, to keep you warm, to keep you warm on those cold lonely Alaska nights.
Tiffany Young: Wow!
Ben Freedman: Okay, so you charge this up, by doing this to the safety lantern and you do that for a couple of minutes.
Tiffany Young: Are we supposed to eat this, is this the food?
Ben Freedman: That’s the food.
Tiffany Young: Well, you just like add water to it and like grows?
Ben Freedman: I don’t know.
Tiffany Young: Hey, I’ve got much for dinner.
Ben Freedman: Can we talk about the lantern for a minute please?
Tiffany Young: All right, I’m done.
Ben Freedman: We have to move on. We’re running out of time.
Tiffany Young: Okay go.
Ben Freedman: We’ll look through this in a minute. Okay, so this lantern obviously, it will do one light, it will do three lights, so if you want things to be brighter, or push it again and it does the “I’m in trouble.”
Tiffany Young: This is for the party. No, this is for the party. Yeah., this is the disco by the campfire or in your tent.
Ben Freedman: Well then actually, if you want to party, it also has a built-in siren.
Tiffany Young: Oh right. I said no.
Ben Freedman: Right. And it also has the thing here called nightlight and mosquito repellant. Now watch, if I put this in nightlight mode, see this little light comes on in front. So there’s your little nightlight, and it also makes this noise, can you hear this?
Tiffany Young: I hear it.
Ben Freedman: Then you put it in the night.
Tiffany Young: It’s that mosquito, it’s the—I hear it.
Ben Freedman: Does that repel--is that a cricket sound or something to repel mosquitoes, is the sound?
Tiffany Young: Here let me see it? Let me see again. It’s some sort of bug. This supposed to make mosquitoes—it’s some sort of bug that eats mosquitoes and that’s their predator.
Ben Freedman: Plus it has. It has—.
Tiffany Young: Is that a radio?
Ben Freedman: Yeah. That I just turned it off. Oops, it has a radio with it.
Tiffany Young: Oh wow. Does this have a radio too in it?
Ben Freedman: Well, I haven’t gone to that part like yet.
Tiffany Young: Oh, oops.
Ben Freedman: So did you hear that? I had the radio on for a second.
Tiffany Young: I heard it.
Ben Freedman: Anyway it’s a—
Tiffany Young: I can’t believe this is $99.00.
Ben Freedman: —that you charge it up
Tiffany Young: What a smoking deal
Ben Freedman: Well, that’s for that pack. I’m not even sure how much these ones are.
Tiffany Young: This always doesn’t come with it?
Ben Freedman: No, no, these are separate.
Tiffany Young: Oh, okay so these—okay, wait, so this is all together and these two are separate. Okay, and with it—
Ben Freedman: That’s right. Now, this is very cool, it’s kind of a smaller version of that here. Again, it’s a—isn’t it a—
Tiffany Young: Flashlight?
Ben Freedman: Now where’s the—oh, here it is. So you turn this like this and you charge up, so you can never run out of batteries, got a compass in there as well.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: And then it’s a flashlight, how do you turn the flash light on? If the--it takes you—oh, here you go. So you have the single point flashlight right there.
Tiffany Young: Wow.
Ben Freedman: You’ve got the really super bright flashlight.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: You’ve got the radio.
Tiffany Young: Now is that radio charged by that same motion?
Ben Freedman: Yup, it’s all charged by that same thing.
Tiffany Young: So that in—actually nothing—nope.
Ben Freedman: You’ve got
Tiffany Young: Oh! God stop.
Ben Freedman: Sorry, The siren.
Tiffany Young: That is wow! That is very piercing.
Ben Freedman: And then in the back here you’ve got a thing here where you can actually charge. Now this is kind of cool. This is a cell phone charger. You plug this into your cell phone.
Tiffany Young: Oh!
Ben Freedman: And it will charge your cell phone from the thing.
Tiffany Young: If you have a connection that will--
Ben Freedman: Well, and that you can shift to different types of connection, and apparently, you plug that in here.
Tiffany Young: That is absolutely amazing
Ben Freedman: And then whatever kind of cell phone you have, you have to—oh look, its strobe light, as well I didn’t even know it did that.
Tiffany Young: That’s for the—yeah the party we’re talking about.
Ben Freedman: I think you’re impressed.
Tiffany Young: I love it.
Ben Freedman: So these products--
Tiffany Young: I love it.
Ben Freedman: are available from Life Gear.
Tiffany Young: and I love it.
Ben Freedman: And I’ve got to tell you—just to have you--even if you’re not—I am not a big outdoorsy kind of guy.
Tiffany Young: See I am. I’m a big outdoorsy--
Ben Freedman: She’s a big outdoors.
Tiffany Young: Whether we’re going camping, whether we’re going fishing, I just spend one full week in the Middle Fork River. I’m in Idaho, and that was an amazing—oh! That was the best
Ben Freedman: And wouldn’t it be great to have something like this in the car, or in campsite.
Tiffany Young: I can’t believe I didn’t have this with me.
Ben Freedman: It’s got pretty much--
Tiffany Young: I would have been like, oh no I’m good. I’ve got this in a week. Thank you.
Ben Freedman: --everything covered.
Tiffany Young: Yeah, my cold—oh no I’m good, good.
Ben Freedman: Yeah, you’ve got everything you need right there. So if you’ve got a little expedition going on one party that has this.
Tiffany Young: That is so simple
Ben Freedman: It’s fantastic. Anyway--
Tiffany Young: I—yeah, I’m absolutely fascinated by this. I am definitely--
Ben Freedman: Well while you’re--
Tiffany Young: Would you pick one of these up?
Ben Freedman: While you’re exploring.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: Allow me to wrap up the show.
Tiffany Young: I’m done.
Ben Freedman: I can tell you this food—I mean—but it doesn’t really matter, whether it’s great food, or I mean it’s emergency food right? I mean it’s emergency food, right? So you’re not, you know--
Tiffany Young: Well I know that, I’m just wondering how you eat it. It’s really hard.
Ben Freedman: I don’t know if you add water, or what have you, or it’s more like a protein bar type of thing.
Tiffany Young: Well that’s a very hard protein bar I’ll tell you that.
Ben Freedman: This says serving size is one tablet, it think there’s nine in here.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: And that gets you--
Tiffany Young: It has like a hundred grams of fat.
Ben Freedman: 400 calories.
Tiffany Young: Geez.
Ben Freedman: 400—well yeah but it’s supposed to be.
Tiffany Young: This is like weight lifter food.
Ben Freedman: Yeah, exactly. It’s ready to eat.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: Five year shelf lives, it exceeds U-S Coast guard standards.
Tiffany Young: Wow.
Ben Freedman: Anyway, got to wrap it up.
Tiffany Young: Okay.
Ben Freedman: So these are all some really cool survival, no battery required products from a company called Life Gear.
Tiffany Young: Wow.
Ben Freedman: I think they’re very, very cool.
Tiffany Young: She does too.
Ben Freedman: Stop it!
Tiffany Young: These are wonderful, but I can’t believe it comes for $99.00 all this stuff.
Ben Freedman: All that stuff. Yeah the worlds best oyster eat--
Tiffany Young: And I swear we don’t get paid for this either.
