Dustin: I am Dustin from Florida. Are light cigarettes any less harmful than regular cigarettes? Laura Bierut: Dustin, this is a very interesting question, this whole idea of light cigarettes. It doesn't look like light cigarettes are less harmful than the other types of more, heavier nicotine and tar cigarettes. If people who are smoking are smoking more heavily, inhaling more heavily, so the health effects with light cigarettes are really equal to the adverse health effects of regular cigarettes. So changing to a light cigarette is not better for your health. Again, the best thing is to quit smoking.
