The typical thunder storm cloud is the Cumulonimbus or thunder cloud. Like many clouds, the Cumulonimbus develops when warm air rises from the surface of the earth.
As the warm air rises, it cools, and the water vapor condenses into minute cloud droplets.
In a thunder storm, the updraft of warm air is rapid and the cloud builds up quickly.
