Hi! My name is Blair Glenn. I am an ISA certified Arborist.
Every once in a while, I run in to a situation that leaves me a little bit perplexed.
This particular Plane tree, Sycamore Tree is what we call them here in California had something very unusual that I would like to show you.
The shape of the tree appeared normal and the foliage. It is false, so it is doing what it supposed to do. But I notice something when I looked at it closely.
The underside of quite of the few of the limbs seemed to have some sort of damaged to them either from sunscald or chemical burn or something, I was not quite sure what it was.
It happened quite few years ago because there is quite a bit of callusing on the wounds. And even on the main trunk, there was a considerable amount of damage.
It was all in one side of the tree. Everywhere I look, there was damage.
It took me 45 minutes and then I started to realize, I understood what the problem was. But it did take a little of detective work to figure it out.
All of the damages on one side of the tree, all of the damage is on the side that is underneath on all these limbs, and it is rather extensive.
It is been a few years and some of these areas show some habitat where the decay is actually got in to an area where these woodpeckers and small animals living in here.
So, it dawned on me that this house that burned down at one time, it must have. I do not know this for a fact but that is the only conclusion that I can think of to that struck me as a bit interesting and I thought I had shared it with you.
Once again, my name is Blair Glenn. I am ISA certified Arborist. Thank you
