Lindsay Smith: It looks like your grooving away over there, what do we listening too?
AJ Vickery: I’m listening to the Get Connected theme song.
Lindsay Smith: Nice! It looks like you’ve got a pretty super duper – super woofer.
AJ Vickery: Super woofer.
Lindsay Smith: Super woofer system going on over there.
AJ Vickery: We’re taking a look at a way to listen to music in your household. And I think this is pretty cool. This is from Logitech, it’s called their Squeezebox System. And essentially what it is, is there so many different ways that we can access content on our households today. So for example, we’ve got our iPod and you know a lot of stereos like you duct them to that or plug it right in but then you put – music another places like on your computer systems, your Winamp where downloaded Mp3’s or you know, BitTorrents or podcast you know going to websites like Rapsody and – what’s the other one, Pandora which is a very popular these days.
Also, we’ve made investment, I mean this isn’t much an investment but we’ve got our stereo system.
Lindsay Smith: What do you mean? This is like top of the line –
AJ Vickery: Top of the line, yeah.
Lindsay Smith: It’s a super woofer.
AJ Vickery: My bought that actually. But we have these systems that are in our house already that play all that music and so, how can we connect to them and that’s exactly what we’re showing you today with the Logitech Squeezebox to get everything into one place.
Lindsay Smith: Yeah, you’ve had it right on – there’s a huge trend right now for people to listen to digital music and the kind of getting away like who is – to CDs anymore. There’s not a lot of people that’s kind of pain. You have so much more flexibility with digital music. So the Logitech Squeezebox that we’ve got here like you said AJ basically runs off a wireless network or Wi-Fi accessing information from your PC or your laptop, as well as internet radio right through there, it doesn’t even connected in your PC.
AJ Vickery: It doesn’t even connect – actually it’s pretty cool. There’s three parts that essentially come with the Squeezebox. There’s the hand remote if you will – it’s more than a remote to computer as well. There’s also what’s called the Squeezebox, the thing that actually connects to your home stereo and that’s a great thing too. If you made an investment like we have here, in our home stereo system, why not just connect the box to it. It actually has a few different connections, it can do component, it could do optical and it built in to this Wi-Fi connections. So it can capture all these information wirelessly or if you have network near where your stereo is, plug it in a hot wire network into it.
But once you’ve got that, connected to that stereo system in that particular room, and the cool thing about this is you can do other rooms as well but we are talking about that in the second. Then you just simply use this device like you say, it’s also Wi-Fi connected and it can access that server.
Lindsay Smith: So let’s just give it a shot here, basically what it does is it allows you to go down and say whether or not you want it – listen to podcast or listen to internet radio. In this case, I’m going to go in and listen – basically search for all the music that we’ve got on the laptop over here just on the studio. And I was going to go in and then I’m going to basically select the album that I want and press the Play. And as just as simple as that.
One of the things I do – really like about this is that shows the album work right on it as well which is kind of a neat feature. And is when you’re loading the software into your laptop, it will automatically find the music files for you so you don’t have to go through and tell it where those locations are. I think that’s kind of a nice for people who aren’t necessarily technically savvy to be able to just kind of go in and go “oh, well this is easy, I install it in a way I go and I’ve got my nice remote, it doesn’t have too many buttons on it either”.
AJ Vickery: Well, you know it’s interesting but these systems used to be in the tens of thousands of dollars and that’s the whole point here is that it gives you another way to access music in your household, very inexpensive. I think you know $400, $500 for something like this but you know, access your iPod, access your downloaded music, access your favorite internet sites even your podcast Logitech Squeezebox.
Lindsay Smith: Yes, it’s given you tons of freedom, so definitely I might check that out.
