This video is about long distance conversion. We decided to try and do this because we are getting a lot of letters from people who are in various places, far remote from a Jewish community who really want to learn to be Jewish and kind of reflect on the idea of conversation.
Got a letter today from a fellow from a strictly Baptist University, said through his studies he has decided that Judaism is the truth and wants to convert but he is hours from any Jewish community. So, if you go to our website, either Jewishconversionchicago.com or esynagogue.org, you will have information about how to do it. Now, of course, the highly preferred way is to do it through a Rabbi and a synagogue community, but if you are too far from one and you want to try and do it through distance learning, we will send you the exact same curriculum that we use in our conversion class in Chicago. We will send you the reading list, and instead f the class time, we would ask you to watch all of my almost 200 videos and we will talk to you over the phone about the counseling sessions. You would eventually have to come here for the rituals at the end. For the religious tribunal, for the circumcision, if that is necessary, the ritual circumcision, the immersion of the Mikvah. And of course we will assess over the phone your preparedness and your fit, you know, this conversion would not be accepted by Orthodox Rabbis, highly likely they would not accept it. They do not accept non-orthodox conversions, but will be following all the procedures that we follow in the conservative movements and certainly the other denominations. Again, I really hope you find your own community and your own rabbi to teach you, but if that does not seem to be possible, we will try and work it out this way because we want to bring more people into the tent of the Jewish people.
