The single or double overhand loop is a really easy knot to tie, probably one the easiest thing actually. A very reliable knot that is used for attaching hook links, snoods, and also attaching pole rigs to post.
Here is how we tie it.
Simply, take a large bite and a fold in the line, like so.
(Demo)
Form yourself a loop,
(Demo)
Like so, and simply pass the end of the line through the loop.
Now this forms the single overhand loop. And to form the double overhand loop, just simply pass it back through that loop once more.
(Demo)
See, you have two loops.
Now, tension the knot gently to start with, lubricate,
(Demo)
And pull the knot tight.
The next stage then, is simply to trim the excess line off fairly close,
(Demo)
And there we have it, the overhand loop, very simple.
Now, I often asked one man on the bank, “How do I join two loops together?”
Well, it is very simple really, this is how we do it.
Simply pass one loop over your main line, like so,
(Demo)
And pass the other end which maybe a hook back through the loop and slide them both together, like so.
(Demo)
Again, just a slight lubrication as you pull them tight,
(Demo)
And there we have two loops joined together, very simple.
You can also attach a loop to a swivel.
Again very simple, simply pass the loop through the swivel, pass the hook end back through that loop itself,
(Demo)
And slide it through. Gradually pull it up and there you will see if it is nicely snot into the eye of the swivel, very easy.
Well, that is the overhand loops. I will leave it to you to practice and see if you can do that successfully and remember: a well tied knot would mean more fish on the bank.
