Hi! I’m Lorie Baker with Ford. And today, I’m going to give you a little introduction on elliptical machine which is a low impact aerobic machine. The first thing you need to know is that you have to start paddling before the display comes on. And like anything, start with the warm up first.
For me, my warm up would be about 110 strides per minute for about 5 minutes. There are 3 things you can vary: speed, ramp, and resistance. Unlike the treadmill that sets the speed for you, on the elliptical, you set the speed. And when you get going, you want to go around 130-170 strides per minute. If you want to make it harder, you can increase the resistance or raise the ramp which will target different muscle groups.
For a lot of machine these days have built-in fitness test. So, if you want to check your progress, just take the fitness test and then take it again in a month and you can see how you are doing. The elliptical is a great way to get the benefits running without the impact.
