In a study of 565 children, those with the birthweight below 5.5 pounds had a 2.3-fold increased risk for autism. In addition, while preterm birth earlier than 33 weeks was not linked to an increased risk for boys, it was linked to a five-fold increased risk for girls.
From Texas, according to a survey conducted by the American Heart Association, most people lack the confidence to help when a cardiac emergency arises. While 89% of over 1,100 respondents stated that they were willing and able to help if they witness a medical emergency, a mere 21% were confident they could perform CPR and only 15% believed they would be able to use an automated external defibrillator.
And finally, from Geneva, the World Health Organization has called for a ban on all tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship in order to prevent young people from smoking.
