From Montreal, a new study from McGill University shows that those who know their risk for heart attack are more likely to lower their cholesterol. Researchers studied over 3000 patients with high cholesterol and showed that those who regularly received information about their risk for cardiovascular event were more successful at lowering their cholesterol.
From Maryland, the FDA is recommending that labels be changed for Tamiflu and Relenza, two medicines that are used to treat the flu. Delirium and abnormal behavior have been reported in some children who have taken the medicines. However, it is also important to remember that confusion, delirium and irritability are all linked to high fever and the flu itself.
And finally from Alabama, smoking and drinking together can significantly raise the risk of heart disease. Mice were given the equivalent of two drinks per hour and were exposed to the same amount of smoke as someone sitting in a car with a chain smoker. Mice exposed to both alcohol and smoke were nearly five times more likely to develop lesions in their blood vessels that can lead to heart attack.
