Hello Steve here with MoreMobileInternet. Today we’re going to talk about the differences between the cradle point CTR500 here and the MBR1000. A lot of our customers are always asking us, “Well which one should I get; the 500 or the 1000?”
So we’re going to go through piece by piece here. This is the 500, of course it’s smaller, obviously much more portable. It has signal strength meter right here which comes in little handy so you can move the device into the most optimal area to get the best signal which translates faster speeds. So that’s definitely an advantage of this device.
It has an Ethernet—one Ethernet port here and of course this is the USB slot that the U1175 is into now. You’ve got an extra port here for an external antenna if you wanted to increase the range of the WiFi a little bit. And on the other side we’re going to express card slot. So it does a handle of express card as well.
Now both these devices actually do fail over and load balancing. So you could actually have two devices, you got an express card here and the USB card in here and have them both share both cards at the same time. So you got ten gigabytes instead of five. Of course it can cash you a 120 a month but you have double the amount of bandwidth to play with every month. So that’s a nice feature on actually both devices. But anyway that’s kind of the CTR500 does and the size of it.
Now let’s move to the bigger that’s the size difference of the MBR1000 that says the USB760 plugged into it here. Also has an express card slot and it does have another USB port here. So you got actually three cards in this device. This one has four Ethernet ports instead of just one. Also has an incoming LAN port there so you can have cable DSL coming in and use fail over on a broadband card with the USB port.
It does have an on-off switch here for the WiFi if you wanted to turn the WiFi off you can do that it’s kind of nice. And you’ve got your signal light here letting you know the status of the device. But this one, the main differences are—it’s the size differences. It’s bigger and has got the three antennas. It has also WiFi in which means it’s the latest and greatest WiFi standard, faster and more thorough coverage with that as long as you have an IN adaptor on the other side.
So those are the main differences in the devices. If you need more than 50 feet of range get this one. If you need less than 50 feet and you want something that is a little bit more affordable then go with the CTR500.
