Our channel at live.pirillo.com that's where we have the chatroom and live video and audio feed happening all the time. It's full of gamers. Like you could be talking about the hole in the ozone layer and someone inevitably will bring up a game or ask me what I think about gaming.
So it comes a no surprise to me that I've got a top five list as submitted by Tuxedo Jericho, happens to be MMO Etiquettes. MMO means, I am going to throw this out of the chatroom. You know what it means, right? Even though I don't really do it a lot. I do know what it means. Massively Multiplayer Online, sometimes it's appended with RPG, Real Playing Game, however he didn't do that.
Hello Mr. Pirillo, oh, so formal. I've been a player of the MMO City of Heroes and the expansion City of Villains, since the original CoH came out in April 2004. I have ran across plenty of noobs and general idiots over the course of almost four years. I hope these tips help people not to be that way. Tips that you can do or you can apply, so that if you are noob, you are not that way for long. Here are some MMO etiquettes.
Number one, don't spam the announcement channels with chit-chat. It is annoying going into some game zones and seeing people spamming chit chat to the entire map. Not only does it get annoying, but if you're looking for a team to play with, it makes that a little harder if your announcement scrolls up the chat screen quickly.
Two, don't pester people with team invitations. If you want to invite someone, do the polite thing and send them a private message with the /tell command. This allows you to see if they would like to join your team. If they are not interested, or they are doing something else, wish them luck. Sometimes, they wish you luck back. If you invite first, you may end up getting ignored.
Three, don't pester people to Power Level you. If you have friends who are willing to power level you, then run with them. Do not go to the high level zones and expect some random high level character to help you get a lot of levels quickly. If you want to level somewhat quickly on City of Heroes or Villains, then run Task Forces for heroes and the strike levels for villains. When you play these at the lowest available level, you tend to level up around two, three or even four levels of the span or I should say in the span, if the Task Force or Strike Force.
Number four, don't pester people in the auction houses. Some people work hard, in the game that is, to get what they are selling. Just because you need to get that one thing, there is a cost, that costs more than what you have, and work to get the extra bit in the game. If you have friends that play, ask them if they can let you have that amount you need. Just don't pester them, or they will not be your friends for very long.
And number five, don't pester someone asking if they can have or if you could have TeamSpeak or a Vent server or access to get it run. Chances are, if you annoy them and they have one, you won't get invited to join. Also, once a TS or a Vent server, once on there, don't annoy the people there, don't play music over the server, but make your sound levels good. You don't want to be too quite or too loud. You may also want to make sure that the people are not hearing echos or game sound effects from your side. It's also good to set your Vent or TS client to have P-t-t or a Push to Talk button configured. This way, the game sounds won't activate the microphone automatically, and it also won't allow your clients to constantly broadcast audio out.
He adds something in here, don't pester someone, don't bother someone to join a guild. If the guild is asking for people, then send a message to the person who is recruiting.
The bottomline is, don't be annoying. That's really all we're saying. I mean some of these tips are specific to this particular game, but just stop it. Don't be annoying, okay. No one likes annoying people, unless you like annoying people or you are an annoying person. And if you don't know of any annoying person, then you are the annoying person, and if you think I am annoying, well, hey, I am not the one sitting through to this point in the video. If you really thought I was that annoying, you should have turned it off all in the beginning.
