Now, this discussion of groups leads us right into another similar feature. This is a brand new one for the Flash Version 8 and that is a feature called Object Based Drawing. This is a little bit new but the option has actually been sitting in front of us and most of the vector drawing tools that we have been chosen. Let me just pick one out here. I am going to center my drawing up and I am trying to find a couple of good excuses for drawing some of them. Let us pick out the oval tool. The feature I am talking about is in this case, right next to the snapping tool and it is a toggle. You can turn on object based drawing. What you will be doing when you draw this way is instead of drawing a normal vector oval like what we did before with the tool in its earlier state, when I draw my oval, I have got a green stroke and a red fill selected, brightly colored circle. You will notice that it comes out looking just like a group. It does not look like the original objects that we worked on. Let me zoom in on it, all of its functions act exactly like a group.
Now, I do have colors that I can change on it and I can modify those just like I did before. But you will notice I do not get any of those selection tool curve modifications that I did before. In order to be able to modify this shape, I will need to double click it just like a group. You can see up in here, it says Drawing Object and again, I can select the elements just as if I had made this with a normal oval tool. Keep in mind that we did not have to group these ourselves. It was grouped when it came out because we were using the Object Drawing Mode. You will find the Object Drawing Mode toggle on all the tools in the Version 8 program and you will notice that the toggle stays on as I click from one tool to another. So, I can switch over here for instance and use the rectangle tool. I was thinking of giving Dad a new tie. Let me make a new bow tie out of it. Now once again, if I draw the rectangle it is actually going to come up as an object. Now you do not see I have got it selected. I guess my lines are a little bit changed but you can see down here in the property window as well, it is being referred to as a drawing object because I have that mode turned on. Let us get rid of this other piece over here. I do not need that anymore.
Now to edit it, just like before, I might treat it like a group. I am going to double click it. I can see I am in drawing object mode. All of the other things are grayed out. I do not really know what this green outline around it so let us get rid of that. I will just reshape this really quickly into a tie. I am going to hold down my Option key and remember while I am modifying curves, that is going to give me a corner point there. So I will just pull that all in and continue to hold down. That is going to be Alt Key on a PC of course. Let us make a little tie out of that. I got to give it a little roundness. Now, what I really wanted to show here besides just making the tie, I will go back to scene 1 and I am going to put in on his coat or in front of his shirt but I did not want to show it in the stock of groups that we have already been working on.
This actually is going to be treated as a group and if I just overlapped it on the other two groups, you will notice it is in the front. So that is consistent with the last group that we have made even though it is a drawing object. I can even go in and use Modify and arrange tools on this to send it let say backwards one level and now, it is down behind the head. I send it completely to the back. I just wanted to show it between here, I will do a forward one level and there you can see it is in front of the face group but behind the other group elements. I could even go inside. We got another group over here with our Dad. I will just cut this group, Index and I can go to the group with the rest of our dad elements and you can see that this has already been grouped together including the tie as a group. I will pull his blue tie off, looks like we I have got an outline for it there as well. At this point, I could paste right into it. Notice I am pasting inside the Dad group so this is going to act just like any other group type of element that we might work with. I could close out the other group and now it is part of the main group that we are working on.
So, now we can see how all of our elements are going to interact with each other and we can either prevent it from happening or as we did with the gondola, we can use it to our advantage.
