Interviewer: Welcome Keith to the Expo show here at Macworld expo 2009.
Keith: Thank you.
Interviewer: And you are with NEC.
Keith: Correct.
Interviewer: And behind you, you have got an amazing monitor, wanted to tell us a little bit about that.
Keith: Yes, it is a 42 inch ultra wide current display, I mean, what we are doing is we are actually using projection technology, which using DOP Technology or DOP engines to produce a 2880 x 900 resolution. And so, what we are actually doing with this is using those engines in a vertical mode to get the four screens together, blending the image together and using one input onto display the 2880 x 900 resolution.
Interviewer: Now you say 2880 x 900, now, will this work on a 1920 x 1200 Mac with a video product just supports up to that?
Keith: Actually was the way we ever connect right now is we are using the Mac Book right now and it is actually outputting the native resolution at 2880 x 900. So, the Macs are all ready to support this. Just connect it via DVI or HDMI and the Mac will automatically recognize the monitor, recognize the resolution support and change it to the native resolution.
Interviewer: So even though your Mac Book may not even go up to 1920 on the standard monitor, it will go up to the 2900 year?
Keith: Yes, if we are using one of the latest Mac Books -- most Macs, each newer Mac that should support the 2880 x 900 resolution.
Interviewer: Very nice and how do you plug it in, you need special anything or just DVI and that is it?
Keith: Just DVI right from --
Interviewer: From one plug one DVD,
Keith: One plug, yes, on one single source plug into the monitor. So it is not like you need to do or have a quad head.
Keith: Right.
Keith: A video caller to support this display, it is only one output into the display and you got your ultra wide image.
Interviewer: That is an amazing picture now, what is the cost of this?
Keith: The cost is going to be right around $6,500. 6499 will be street price. On a delivery will be, right now we are targeting April or early April delivery.
Interviewer: Early April, and who do you see as your target market here mainly? Who just got a monitor?
Keith: There are a numbering of the markets and applications we are going to go after. One of them is the government, some government usage, some video editing and audio editing capabilities from the broadcast site possibly. Of course gaming is another one as well as financial sector from users using multiple displays now, this display will allow them to just have one display on their desktop and that the scene was displayed.
Interviewer: Now you said that this is DOP, correct?
Keith: Correct.
Interviewer: Now, it seems like market, if you go to any store and look for a monitor, they are all going towards plasma or LCD, a very few DLP’s left out there right?
Keith: Yes.
Interviewer: Is this a technology -- maybe this is a trick question, I am not trying to make any trick question but is this something that we are investing in that is going to go fade out or the seat is really continuing?
Keith: Oh, I definitely see this continuing just from the point of the DOP or really projection technology is the only technology that is going to allow us to give a true curve display. If you are using an LCD or a plasma base technology, of course, there is front layers of glass will not allow you to get that natural curve on the screen. So, that is where a projection and specifically DOP is going to be around for years and this type of display because of that natural curve to it.
Interviewer: I see. I can see there is being great for gaming as well.
Keith: Yes,
Interviewer: Very immersive.
Keith: Very immersive for gaming and as well as simulation.
Interviewer: Right.
Keith: So, from a simulation stand point and a small application, not large screen but smallest screen application, simulation is a perfect fit for that as well.
