Welcome to The Digital Lifestyle.com video show. On this video I’m going to take a first look the Power Pack 3 for Windows Home Server Beta. So this is the first which is release Power Pack 3 which is absolute new from—around the backups and book facing and everything else. But the main thing for me is—do is the ads, archiving TVs and a much better integration between windows media center and windows home server. So what I’ve though is I’ve got the home server connector installed on and a home server with Power Pac 3 installed. So what I’m going to do is take a look at the installed, see where it goes and then to see how we can use it, how we can use it for the archiving TVs and transcoding because it’s just love things like transcoding through a different format as well.
So we’ll switch in the camera and we’ll take a look at Power Pack 3. So I just thought you bring those media center for the first time since installing the Power Pack 3 and you connect it for windows home server on this machine. The first thing it’s asking me is saying this is an installer and that will allow me to connect to windows media center to home server. So let’s launch them.
So now it’s working me through the steps of the installation. Okay, now it’s done. So I can restart the machine and then when we come back we shall have the home server cache reinstalled. Right, so now we’re pretty basic, let’s fire up media center. Okay, so let’s scroll into the home service section, go to TV archive, and it’s serious to be cool. So here we have some program which is going to be cool as it is. So after selecting that program it is now archived and then we go to activity. We can see that that it start to archive, so basically it’s copying that, moving that now from the laptop to windows home server. And so we know where the history because it’s the first time we’re going to that.
Let have a look at the settings. So we can archive over to it automatically, move it across the home server, create a compressed copy for TV, windows mobile, and it is so much quite nice way of saying this is based on your home server. If you’re only with the archiving for usually windows mobile you can shrink it right down or if you leave it as TV, it keeps it in the original resolution but does compresses, just talking a less space.
So the other thing we can do is move archive series across. So if I go into the guide and I’m going to set it to record series, now if I go to home server you can see here that’s the series that I’ve set to record, so I can set this to automatically archive that show and that's with the individual recordings. I can then change the settings. As you can see that the big stars are being automatically ticked. And I can choose where to put those.
In the feature in the windows home server connected for windows media center is that you’ll be able to view the stages of windows home server. Now Nvidia reminds you to get this to show on the home service start menu. It should appear on that but it is in the—choose library so we can access the console view. This is basically a TenFold version of the home server console and that’s where they’re going to be useful because say if you’re having to fire out a machine and have a look at the desktop version of it, you can actually see the TenFold version right. So here you can see my test home server, it’s doing well on storage. When we go to one drive in there we could see this page, see that it’s not backuped. We go to the shared folders, on media count, got the health, and then we’ve got some information about doing those home service in my test machine so it’s not a 100% sets up. So I can have to look around at the folder and its lock. And notice you can’t really do, is you can’t interrupt with it. But then as far as you need this so you need to because all of these folders are in the home server anyway.
But it’s nice to be able to see the stages without having to go into the standard windows console. Of course, the other thing is the stages as well can be, if you’re using Mason’s out monitor which you can download from health.digitallifestyle.com that will update the stages as well so that if there’s failed recordings it will change the stages and that will appear on the health section here so you get failed recordings notifications in there as well. So it’s a good way to get a fail notification straight in media center.
So that was the two extra areas, we got the console and the TV archive. So I like the idea of the TV archive, that’s to show that you may want to record but you’re not sure when you’re going to watch them, they could be stuffed there and to have the kids where they could be just want to throw on the home server so you can use this automatic series to do that thing are when you quit, it shows here.
Now with the archive, but as far as windows media centers can sent so I can play that as we do and download and record the TV file. And if I go to the record the TV folder so there in recording TV library I can see the look files and the home server store the files then the media center actually doesn’t match to where those files are. So it’s a nice easy way of managing new files.
So that’s a pretty, we’re really on how to install the windows media center for Power Pack 3 windows home server. It’s only a feature. It just seems to be working a lot of the idea you can also match at Compu series and you can copy individual shows. Like I said before I would like to see that it’s been in action and in media center Java is you can go to record a TV and all that actions, archive, but it’s a good start anyway. You can download it from the Microsoft page because that connects to cut.microsoft.com/windowshomeserver. Sign up for the beta and then you can get the bits. Be careful with beta software, I’m using it only as a test system because my media center and my windows home server work very nice whenever they starts up. But you can see it’s a good step forward for media center for you guys. Now if you like seeing the console as well in there just makes things easy to see. So have a look and check it out of play and I’ll see you around on The Digital Lifestyle.com
