If you got a landlord and a lease, then you may not have a lot of choices when it comes to decorating. But we have got design ideas that will help you make their place feel like yours and every idea is temporary so you will get that deposit back.
Pretty cool kitchen huh? I made it out of contact paper, paint and paper towels. To be honest, this kitchen is awful looking. Nobody wants to come home to this so we are going to do a little renovation. Easy steps, I am going to show you how to do it right now.
The items that you will need are an assortment of acrylic paints, masking tape, pair of scissors, some plastic lids and assortment of brushes, stencils, clear contact paper and of course, drop cloths.
So, we are going to start by opening up our clear contact paper and then I have got our lids and this is a great way to save money without having to go out and buy an artist palette. We are going to start with a nice blue acrylic color. I love working with acrylics because if you ever make a mistake, you can always wipe it off with water.
So, after we have covered the majority of this contact paper with the blue, then we will dip in to the white color. This helps to give it more of dimension. You can use any color. If blue is not your favorite color, you can use green, you can use black, you can use white there is a whole rainbow out there.
We just let this dry for about 30 minutes, we are going to peel off the back of our contact paper, and we are going to stick it right on to the cabinet.
And if your cabinets are wider than the actual width of the contact paper then you are going to turn it sideways and then we will just double layer it here.
I came up with this idea when I was living overseas in Japan with my husband who is in the military. We rented this little Japanese home and it had horrible, horrible tiles. They were yellow in color so I decided to use contact paper to cover up each one those squares and created this beautiful kitchen that everybody just absolutely loved.
So the cabinets are done. You can stop here but I am not because I am going to jazz it up a little bit.
I am going to paint huge yellow flower on this cabinet and those are really going to pop so I have some yellow acrylic paint here. I am going to free hand it. I am making some nice petals. I like projects that are really quick and easy to do.
Maybe we will just do a little flower bud. Put that up here and I just do those kind of like the same sheet as a petal and we will do it twice like it is an opening bud. So now, let us get our vines on. Just kind of make it look really whimsical and go right over it right into there. Let us clean that up.
And you can really use any kind of color scheme with this. I just used the blue as kind of like a sky background and then the flowers. If you like purples or reds, you can polka dots on here.
If you have animals, you can put footprints all over your kitchen. Really, it is up to you. Be as creative as you want.
I could have done straight or I can use a stencil.
To really make your painting pop up with the cabinets here, the trick is to use a white and you really just want to put it on the edge. It helps to soften it up as well.
Remember how gross this kitchen used to look but we put some color on the cabinet and created a cool and funky place to hang out and the best part is we can pull the contact paper and get out of here.
