This is a cutwork applique vest and well it looks complicated it really is not. We will be showing you in this brief little demo video just how simple they are to make.
First thing that you are going to do is choose your lining fabric and your bedding. Trace your design on your bedding and fuse it on to your lining fabric. Then, you are going to cut it out around those lines living yourself about a half an inch, something to hang on to and sow on to. So, you are boxed to your vest and you are going to put them right size together and sow your seen in a nice little have not seen. Just press it open and lay everything flat bedding side up.
Everything we do is with the bedding side up. Once you have your sides attached you are going to take this yolk and band pieces that you have already prepared and you are going to fuse them on top of your bedding. If you would like you can use a very loose satin stitch just around the edges to hold everything in place while you finish putting all your appliques on. Take those applques, the ones that you have already prepared and fuse them down.
You are going to fuse your entire vest in place first, once everything is fused down use a satin stitch and stitch around the outside of every applique and your banding the old gaius. Even the outside of the vest is just a satin stitch. Once you are done, use a seam sealant like pre check and put it only on the thread touching the bedding. Then, use a pair of fine scissors and cut out all that white bedding you see. Cut it out along the outside edge to.
Now, if you want to pull anything fancy like beading or fancy stitching. You look right now while your vest is nice and flat. You do not work on it once the shoulders are sown. The last thing that you are going to do is tune up those shoulders even at both sides then slightly overlap it and use a satin stitch, just like you did everywhere else. That is all you are going to do, to do your vest. You are going to trace, fuse, satin stitch, and trim.
And the end result is going to look something like this. A gorgeous piece of work and no one has any idea just how simple how they are to do.
