Hi, my name is Dale Roberts; I am with the Java Shack in Arlington, Virginia. Today I’m showing you how to make coffee beverages. Next, I am going to be showing you how to make a cappuccino. Starting with your porter filter, we’re going to grind some coffee down, tamping once again to 50 pounds of pressure. Pack them nice and firm, insert into the machine. Take your cup; we’re going to pour directly into the cup. Cappuccino should be equal parts of espresso, steamed milk and frothy milk.
Taking your pitcher, we find that skimmed milk steams much better, than whole milk so we are going to use that for this practice. You should not hear a lot of noise coming from the milk when you are steaming it. There is an ever so hissing sound from time to time; using a thermometer we’re going to heat the milk up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, no more than that. Once it reaches 140 degrees, we will stop the steaming process. Let the milk rest for a bit, take a new cup, we always clean out our coffee grains immediately after brewing the espresso, rinsing the porter filter, letting the milk rest a bit. Using a nice large spoon we are going to scoop the milk. Once again, one third steamed milk with a one third froth on top, the other third being the espresso letting the milk pour and then the cappuccino. This is a Cappuccino; next I will be showing you how to make a Cafe Latte.
