Switching to Mac
Part Eight of Ten:
Keyboard Shortcuts
Today in part 8 of our 10 part series of switching from the PC to the Mac, we’ll look at Keyboard Shortcuts.
Now both of the PC and the Mac use keyboard shortcut extensively both the operating system and programs so that in many applications, a mouse isn’t necessary.
And it’s quite interesting to see the similarities between the keys used on the Mac and the keys used out of PC. For the primary keys on the PC, for doing keyboard shortcuts are the Ctrl and all the keys. On the Mac, there’s a command key which the PC does not have and there's and option key which is also called the Alt key as well as a Ctrl key.
So it’s interesting to see that on a Mac, Cmd N is equivalent Ctrl N at a PC and that opens a New Window. A Mac Cmd C, copies and Ctrl C copies on a PC, Cmd V pastes on a Mac and Ctrl V pastes on a PC, Cmd X cuts on Mac and Ctrl X cuts on a PC, now to close a Window, a Mac you can use Cmd W and on PC Ctrl W. On a Mac you can print by pressing Cmd P and on the PC it’s Ctrl P. On a Mac you can undo a previous action by pressing Cmd Z and on the a PC it’s Ctrl Z. On a Mac, Cmd A is use to select all where as at a PC it’s Ctrl A and a Mac, Cmd Tab is used to cycle through all the programs that are loaded and at a PC it’s Alt Tab.
So this is the keyboard shortcuts of the PC and the Mac. Extremely similar and that concludes part 8.
