Scott Sicari: By using broken china to create a mosaic you can make a unique three beautiful
kitchen backsplash that won’t break your budget. This china is cheap, and it’s
usually available in local food stores or even grandma’s attic. Use plates, cups,
folds anything and mix and match the patterns it just doesn’t matter. Alright so
demolition is definitely the fun part of this project, now you can do with the old
fashion way by taking the hammer to a plate but I just see you don’t really a
match control here. So a simple way to this is to take a tile snip and actually just
grab the corner of a plate and you can start to get the pieces of the sizes that you
need.
Sometimes being random actually takes a little bit of planning so what I’ve done
here is created a template for a backsplash and we’re kind of laying out the design
first just to make sure we have all the pieces we need. Alright so we’re ready to
stick these stuffs to the wall now and in this case you don’t have to start in the
corner you actually want to pick out the full co point and we’re going to use our
center of our sink which is going to be our main starting point here. And I’m just
using regular tile adhesive on the back on this to get in stock up alright. And then
you just go, just go with it, you can just drop the tiles in and this is a pretty quick
process once you have your design set up. Okay, so we’re ready to grab now
traditionally you’ve use a rubber float to get the grout into your tile but since we
have a sort of unique project here, there is a lot of space to fill so we’re going to
use this sponge today to fill this whole wall with grout and then wipe to clean.
So we’ve given a grout about 20 minutes to setup and we’re ready to wipe off the
excess now with another clean sponge we’re going to start just in some water not
too much whether an sponge bring it out and then just get in there and start wiping
the tiles clean. By repurposing china plates and cups as mosaic tile, we’ve created
a one of a kind backsplash that will feed your kitchen creativity for years to come.
