Manhattan Woman Keeps Rats as Pets
Well Remalina, my first rat, I named Remy after Ratatouille and Remalina is like the
female version of Remy. And myself I was brought up Catholic, so Christiana has Christ
in it. And they both are such a joy and when I look at them I can see God in their eyes. I
can see the innocence.
This box goes over there. I have a towel over it and that’s where they basically stay. They
sleep all day, they’re nocturnal. And they’ll have little treats, I give them dog cookies but
they’re vegetarians as well because I don’t believe in feeding one animal to another
animal.
So they’re amazing pets and people really come around and I really think it’s
exterminators that give them a bad name. Because they make money off of them, it’s
blood money to me.
And Remy, he lived three years. Yes in my meal too. They died within like six months of
each other and they’re buried up state and my Reggie, like I said just past away. So he’ll
be up state as well. I have a crucifix with my little pet cemetery up there. And this is my
little boy Reggie, who passed away about four weeks ago. And he’s got a little -- he’s
favorite thing is blueberry yogurt so he’s got a little bit on his mouth. This is where he
loved me to wrap him right here. He goes on his back in a little --. You know I give him
kisses like bring them out.
So he’s so dear to me. He was such a good boy, such a good boy. As you can see he’s
much bigger than my girls. They just touch my heart like all animals I love but especially
little rats, like my little babies. This is my little baby boy -- see his little whiskers here.
He’s hands are in prayer. Well it’s again the Catholic faith being buried. We’ll go up to
the mountain. I have this plot already dug and I have to cross there and just lay him to
rest.
