Marbling exudes thickness and sophistication; you want to feel like royalty in your own home? I
have a decorative finish that’s right just for you. Marbling can have a big impact on either walls
or furniture. It’s a little more complex than other decorative techniques but don’t let that stop
you. This finish requires a little bit of artistic ability and a little knowledge of the tools. We give
a time and a little practice and anybody can do it. You will need a paint tray, three or four latex
paint colors that resemble real marble. Several china bristle brushes, a few artist pieces, a sea
sponge, latex glaze and I like to use a Shea spa. I’m am gong to marbleizes the table top which
I’ve already find and base coated and because this is usually text paint tend to swell the grid the
wood I’ve also sanded it down in between coast. Another thing if you are beginner with this it’s
really helpful to have a visual aide even if it just a picture from a magazine.
Now I’m playing two colors of paint in the small area and the consistency of that paint should be
like heavy cream. Right now I’m sorting out with the cement finish which I really just want to
give lots of depth to this marble. The parchment finish provides the soft base to learn more about
that technique click on it. Next will add some veins to give that realistic marble look, you can
create a vein by pulling the nearly dry paints into a natural flowing line with the dried brush. The
marble won’t look realistic if you see brush marks so cross that over them with the dry brush to
make almost imperceptible.
I wanted to create depth in the marble so with the damp sea sponge I could apply it to the paint
but I’ve just to find and reactivate it. And then I can take my dried brush and cross hatch over
and you see how it creates depth looking the paint. Artist brushes are ideal for creating paints
too, I’ve also have a little bit of white paint here and this is also perfect for veining. I am going to
just twirl the brush in my fingers like this and create depth. If the vein is too thick a dry brush
gently spreads the paint, another way to add texture, apply the paint directly to the assistant and
dub it on the table and finish away. For me the hardest part of marbling is knowing when to stop,
one more thing to really like this marble shine is just add some semi gloss furnish with the firm
ruler it will last you forever just like real marble.
