In the 1990, Jess Thompson coined a new phrase in the UK Martial Arts.
Defense is principles that provide to defend them with your opportunity to assess the potentially followed situation and act preemptively rather than reactively—one of the largest criticisms formal martial arts training faces. It is relied some reactive techniques and drills when in reality the person who strikes first and usually wins.
This one concept—which is so simple that people overlooked it, this one concept just taught me through hundreds of physical confrontations. Actually, it took me 3,000 because you might attempt of use defense to calm situations down to use verbal dissuasion or calmness. This is the most important thing, in my view, that you will ever learn. It is the one thing that still makes me feel safe now.
If you watch the way I am talking now, this is defense. What this does is it blocks the gap between me and you, if you are the aggressor. And it allows me to control pre-fight, and the person that controls the pre-fight is the person that controls the in-fight. Then allow me to get the first shot in here, if they get the first shot in that way, that will be the only shot there. Defense is massively important.
(Music Playing)Wing Chun is a martial art that senses a lot of its fighting principles on the use of sensitivity. Allen Gibson, a renowned Wing Chun sifu uses this approach in his version of defense. In genuine confrontations on the street, this is not going to help from a sparring range of about 6 feet; it is going to help from about 2 feet away. If your aggressor is coming towards you, you can use your contact or you gather your friends to stop the person come here, that is you physically push him back. From this position particularly, you can feel what is happening before it happens and defend yourself. Ni that type on confirmation, you are going to do—come from different section and you can kick right in (demonstration) made in an attempt.
Before having good contact to determine he comes in, if he is moving in from a distance here. I still withheld my hands here to prevent his approach and to be talking defense, I can move quickly, pull away my hands up. If he brings his hands up in front, position and just grabbed it in, take him go down.
