Marvelous Brown Sugar Banana Cream Recipe
bettyskitchen
Hi I’m Betty. Welcome to Betty’s Kitchen. Today we’re making a banana cream dessert.
I have had a few people request banana recipes and yesterday we did banana milk shake.
I did a vanilla version of that and a chocolate version of that so hopefully you got those
banana and are enjoying your banana milk shake so we’re going to have a banana cream
dessert.
I’m starting with a sauce pan here and to that sauce pan I’m going to add some sour
cream. This is 1 cup of sour cream. The sour cream is going to give a little tart flavor to
this cream but we’re going to counteract that by adding in brown sugar so my next item
that I had coming up here is brown sugar. Light brown sugar. You need ¾ of a cup so I’m
placing ¾ of a cup in here and then we’ll just mix those together it’s just very simple to
do and as soon as these are mixed I’m going to take them to the stove and cook them over
low heat and I’ll be cooking them about 10 minutes and it will become a nice creamy sort
of thickened sauce and that’s when I’ll take it off the heat and had it cooled down a bit
and then refrigerated and I’ll see you back after we have a sauce which is cool.
I just got my sour cream brown sugar pudding out of the refrigerator. It’s been there for a
couple of hours and this is a small pan. It’s cooled on the bottom. It’s cooled all the way
through. You need to have it cooled. If you start blending this with your bananas and this
is hot, it will turn your bananas brown so don’t do that. I have been keeping these
bananas nice and fresh by using a little bit of lemon juice just sprinkle over the top while
I prepare the other things that I needed to do and then to counteract that I had put about a
tablespoon of Splenda so that, that protects the tartness and it’s just an artificial sweetener
that you can use or you can use sugar sort of that takes away the effect of the taste of the
lemon juice.
So we’re ready now to put together our little banana cream dessert. You might take a
small dish, it depends on how much you want to make. I’m just going to make 1 banana’s
worth. This is one banana and like I said I did had it sitting in some lemon juice with
some Splenda so let’s just go ahead and use half a banana. Well now I might have room
for more than that. We’ll just use the whole banana because they don’t have plenty of my
sauce.
The sauce then, what you want to do is to pour it over and then check to see how it’s
looking because you don’t want it swimming in sauce but you want the sauce to cover it
so you just blend that together. Doesn’t that look nice, it’s really a fruity looking dessert
and it tastes wonderful and when we finish our presentation of it I think you’ll really
enjoy what it looks like. But that’s about what it should look like so just take what you
need and as many bananas as you want to work with and if you need more sauce just
double the recipe.
I used 1 cup sour cream, ¾ of a cup brown sugar so just double that to 2 cups of sour
cream and 1-1/2 cups of brown sugar if you need twice as much. You might just want to
serve it in a nice dish. I picked a little sherbet dish and it’s clear that allows you to see
through all the way to the bottom and just spoon it in trying to get your banana slices as
well as that good dressing. Of course the dressing will stick very easily so it’s not like
you have to worry about anything. It looks like this 1 banana is going to be just right
from our purposes here and I like it that I had just a little bit of sauce that I can drizzle
down over the top without it overflowing or anything.
This is what you want it to look like at this point. Now to finish it up, oops I dropped a
little bit there, sorry about that. To finish it up I have some whip topping and this is fat
free whip topping. This is a dessert that is not really all that bad for you because I used fat
free sour cream, and then we did have the sugar but this being fat free we’ve cut down on
as many calories as we could.
So just put a dollop of whip topping on the top of your bananas and cream dessert and
then finish it off with a nice cherry. I like the cherries with a stem and you might notice
that I hid it over here on paper towel. If you don’t do that then you probably want to have
several specs of cherry juice and that just doesn’t really look the best so here is our
banana cream dessert.
