Hi, I am Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, we are going to talk about masking tape. Up until just a few years ago, the only choices you have for a masking tape was the tan masking tape and basically how wide it was, and how many few are on the roll. That is all changed though. Today, there is a number of different colors of masking tape on the market. And it is not just about pretty colors. What it is about really is the type of material that the masking tape can be applied to and how long it can be left on a wall or surface before it needs to be removed.
With all of today’s choices on masking tapes, the traditional tan masking tape really is limited for production applications where there is really no risk of damaging wall surfaces or wall covers. The gold masking tape that is available on the market today has mainly meant for vinyl wallboard or full finishes type surfaces. The blue masking tape is used for smooth surfaces and has less adhesive strength than your traditional tan masking tape. And finally, we have this green masking tape which is used heavily by contractors. It is considered very good in terms of the strength of the paper and adhesion capability, and it is great for making clean, razor sharp lines when you are doing your cutting.
It is important to read the information on the masking tape package prior to buying it. If you want to look for the appropriate masking tape for the particular painting application that you are planning on doing, you will notice that there is maximum number of days that the tape can be left on. In this particular case with the gold, it can be left on for up to 60 days whereas the green masking tape which has a stronger adhesive strength can rarely left on for 80days without causing a significant problem in terms of either removing it from the surface or potentially damaging the surface as you remove it. So you thought masking tape was boring. Well as you can see, there are a lot of choices out there, a lot of things to consider when you start your next home painting project.
