Hey guys how is it going? This video is going to be on MRTE which means Mio ready to eat. They're use by militaries all around the world and basically this will be a review on them. And also an open one up to show you what's on the food website and ill be using an MREE heater too. So ill show how that works.
All right! So to get started a couple of reasons why MREE’s are so good. First of all they have a lot of calories which is very good because when you're in the military doing daily operations if you're back packing, hiking , bugging out and doing whatever, hunting. You need all the calories you can get. You're going to burn a lot more than 2000 calories a day if you’re even just hiking and if you're doing more strenuous activities. You could be burning up to 5000-6000 calories a day.
So when you're in the outdoors you need all the calories you can get. Also MREE usually have an average of 5 to 7 years shelf life which is really, really good. Another benefit of using MREE’s is that they do not have to be heated. You can just eat it cold. You don’t need to make a fire. You don’t need to heat it up. If you’re hungry and you need to eat right then you can just open the packages and eat it up.
All right! this is not how they come usually they come in an olive drab colored plastic bag and each food item is also pack in a card board box. The reason I've put in them in a zip lock bag and took out the card board boxes it to save space. Also the zip lock is incompletely necessary. These are pouches the food pouches are water proof so its not completely necessary but I just want to keep it organize and all together.
So now ill show you what I have with me. This isn’t a full meal so this isn’t if you'd say you ordered one meal online this isn’t what you would get. Also there's a variety of foods to choose from. So these are just a couple of things I grabbed from different MREE’s. Usually in every kit you get a package like this which is a bunch of different items and ill show you them right now. Okay the first things that are in these little pouches are toilet paper, a little toiler paper.
Obviously a necessity when you're in the out doors. You can use it for all kinds of things. Next is an ice tea drink mix and this vary. Some of them you get coffee in them, some of them side. There are different wines so this one for example is just an ice tea mix. I prefer the coffee one’s by self. Also a salt a salt pocket. Salt is very important in the outdoors when you sweat you loose a lot of salts and you need to replace it. Next is a moist towelette, good for cleaning up after you eat or you save it for later. Most of the time they have a little Tabasco’s sauce bottle. This is like really tiny less than an ounce probably less than half an ounce but the MREE’s don’t taste the greatest. And this will just make it taste a little bit better if you like Tabasco’s sauce and it just a need thing they get.
Next which usually aren’t in all MREE’s are matches and ill read what it says. “These matches are designed especially for damn claimants but they will not light when wet or after long exposure (several weeks to very damp air)” so these aren’t just regular matches. They can be in a wet environment just pretty good. And last but not least is Chiclets or gum, this is anything have to sugar. Always a good thing to have you're body needs it just like it needs other things. And that s basically the contents of one of the little pouches that you would usually get in an MREE.
All right! The next item is mashed potatoes and this is generally the size sometimes they're bigger of the main course. Also in here I have spice apples which are not an outré either. In fact I didn’t bring any really heavily protein or laided foods. I'd rather save those for more of an emergency. Usually you get a spoon and what these are, are the MREE heaters. It’s like a chemically activated bag and ill be showing you how that works right now.
Again you don’t need to heat the MREE’s but they will they taste better. You can also heat them in you're canteen cup all over a fire. Now I'm going to show you how to use this MREE heater and I'm going to heat up the mashed potatoes. You actually are supposed to have the card board box that come s around the mashed potatoes and then the original package. Well I'm not going to do it that way it works anyways and ill just use my zip lock bag.
All right the first thing I'm going to do is rip off the top of the heater. You want the MREE the heater itself this way pot inside so be above the fill line. You are going to need to add water to this. So now I'm going to add the mashed potatoes so once you have the MREE and the heater pad above the fill lines you're going to add some water. And this could be stream water it doesn’t matter because you're not be drinking it. Next you want to slide the MREE and the heater to the bottom of the bag and you're going to fold the top over the away from the heating pad. So there's no heating pad on this side.
Now you’re going to put it horizontally with the heater on the under side of the MREE and hold it for a minute until its starts to feel warm. Wait ill take off my gloves so I can get a better scents. The water basically activates the heating pad. After about 40 seconds it’s already really hot, too hot to leave your hand there for any amount of time. Now you’re supposed to s tick you're hand to the card board b ox but I'm just going to use my zip lock bag.
Now you want the MREE to be resting on an angle with obviously the top end up so if that the water doesn’t come out and you want the heating pad under the MREE so it heats it up good. And for some reason you don’t want give away your position or you’re in a combat zone or you can't start a fire. This is a better option then having the fire using the MREE heater because the fire will give us all smoke. Its bray t night time and if you don’t want to be seen a fire will easily give away your position.
Also there's sometimes where a fire isn’t easy to start maybe a heavy of raining or whatever so an MREE heater is a great option to have. All right so it’s been about 10-15 minutes now and ill show the results and yeah it’s very hot right now. And that’s what it looks like let’s see. That’s you're standard MREE mashed potatoes. They're really good I like them. Potatoes are high in carbohydrates which is also good for you’re energy so and this are at least two years old and they still taste really good.
They probably have another five or six years still left in or maybe more but it’s definitely good way to go. There's a lot of different places you can get MREE’s. I would say online is one of the best source. Oh you'll get it cheaper online and you can also get them in military surplus stores. So that’s basically for this video. Thank you guys for watching and ill talk to you later bye.
