Measuring Sleep Quality Dr. Travis Stork: Now it’s time for one of the biggest questions you’ve sent to us about night time. Brianna sent us this home video. Brianna: Doctors, please help me I wake up tired every single day and I’m so anxious to go to sleep because I know I wont get a good nice rest. I have a comfortable bed. I don’t drink any caffeine throughout the day. And I wake up constantly throughout the night. I'm so frustrated. Please help me. Dr. Travis Stork: Brianna is not alone so we sent sleep specialist Michael Bruce to help Brianna get some z’s. Brianna: Hi Dr. Bruce, how are you? Dr. Michael Bruce: Good, how are you? Brianna: Tired. Dr. Michael Bruce: Yeah, that’s what I heard. Your situation is incredibly common but not something that I would think that you might have a sleep disorder. I think you’ve got probably pretty poor quality sleep but we really never knew how to measure something like that. We wouldn’t do that in a sleep laboratory. Now there’s actually something new out there for the consumer that I’d like to try with you, it’s called the Zeo. What this is a headband that you’ll put across your head and it will wirelessly transmit EG signals to a bedside unit that will collect the data all night long and it will actually tell us how much time you spend asleep, how much time you spend in REM sleep, deep sleep and how much time you spend in light sleep so we can actually tell the quality of your sleep. We’ve got the Zeo set up here's the headband you’re going to have this three pads against the top of your forehead you’ll sleep with it all night long. When you wake up in the morning you’ll just dock it right here. And then you’ll take all of your information and put it into your computer and then we’ll really understand what we can do to get you a better nights rest. Brianna: I'm excited. I brought two night vision cameras we’re going to place one at the foot of your bed and one to the side of your bed so we can get a visual representation of what the Zeo is going to be measuring.
