Menopause and Bone Loss

Cory: I am Cory from Michigan, and I am little bit confused about the subject of bone loss after menopause, and I was wondering what your latest findings are.

Brian Halpern: Well Cory, menopause is a huge thing and bone loss related to it happens to all women who are postmenopausal. Our latest research demonstrates dramatic decrease in bone strength, every year your postmenopausal and the reason that is, because you no longer produce the estrogen, which helps in the bone strength. So we need to counter that by number one, you taking Calcium or Vitamin D that get uptake into the bone. Number two, you exercising as much as you can; walking, running, doing weight work because that stimulates bone strength and bone growth. And finally, if we need to and you have lost too much bone, we supplement with various drugs that help that.
