Audra Lowe: Most women definitely take the cake when it comes to wedding planning and the guys they sit back, they relax hopefully show up for the big day. But Jeff Wilser, Editor at theplunge.com says that you men might want to wake up, pay attention.
He’s in our studio with some advice on when you should wake up, when you should doze off during the planning because there are two different things. You should just pay attention at some point, another times check out right?
Jeff Wilser: Absolutely.
Audra Lowe: So not fun men to do the wedding planning. The women we get little kick out of it though, right?
Jeff Wilser: 2.2 million guys get married every year and about zero them look for the wedding planning or know what to do of any concept. Guys don’t grow up saying “Oh I’m dreaming of my dream wedding” and they don’t plan it their whole lives.
Audra Lowe: We’re not doing the organizing. So we’re going to talk about first when you wake up, setting the overall budget that when a guy should be waking up paying attention, right?
Jeff Wilser: Right. So much of the wedding budget and decisions boil down these big decisions early on, so the guest list, the venue, and date. So by paying attention to that in the beginning you can avoid caring about things like ice sculptures later on.
Audra Lowe: Alright Jeff, also says mention those off at this point of time. The foods, all the food, don’t worry about it.
Jeff Wilser: Who cares, right? I mean if you are a gourmand, if you really want to drill on that, great but don’t stress over all those small decision throughout the process.
Audra Lowe: Okay. Especially you don’t want everybody to gain weight and blame it on you at the end of the wedding anyways too.
Okay, wake up when it’s time to plan the honeymoon. Why? Because it’s fun?
Jeff Wilser: It’s fun. Have it as your reward for the suffering of wedding planning. You have this year long process of all this tedium but the honeymoon is something that’s actually kind of cool you can look forward to planning.
Audra Lowe: But the women is doing most of the work though Jeff. If she is doing the work you get rewarded?
Jeff Wilser: There is still 10%, there’s 90% that women does, a 10% guy does, still anxious and—
Audra Lowe: I see where you are going this one here. Alright, you should be dozing off when it comes to talking about the cake.
Jeff Wilser: Yes!
Audra Lowe: Why? This is a good stuff, cake is a good stuff.
Jeff Wilser: Okay. Let’s accept it because it is fun to like you think, oh we are going to taste it, butter cream, this is great. But when you realize that price tag is 600 bucks a pop the cake suddenly taste a lot less good when you realized the cost.
Audra Lowe: Okay, so you let her deal with that and you can just doze off at that point.
Jeff Wilser: Right.
Audra Lowe: Alright. Coordinating the music though, that’s the time when the guy should wake up. Once again, I see your theme here. When it’s fun and easy, that’s when the guys wake up.
Jeff Wilser: Well that’s mostly true. But also it’s important to keep perspective because the wedding is a party. And so the guys role can be of help remember is a party. And music, picking a DJ or bands that are kind of fun what a guy can do.
Audra Lowe: I agree with you though, because women you get wrapped up in all the planning and a little stressed out so you need somebody who is going to do these things.
Jeff Wilser: And not to stereotype a lot of women, most of them I’m sure really want to be fun as well but this is a one area and guys we’re kind of incompetent and we’re kind a check out. So these are areas we can help make a difference.
Audra Lowe: Okay. I think I know the answer to this one but, when it comes to the flowers, should they wake up or doze off?
Jeff Wilser: I want to guess maybe doze off. And if a guy really is into flowers that’s great you know but probably somebody can check out.
Audra Lowe: Yeah not too many of them are. The bachelor party though—oh perk up, that’s when you should wake up huh?
Jeff Wilser: Yes and believe it or not, that’s one I’m going to say and wake up. Although the most controversy in our website we have ask the expert column and so many guys write in about controversies about the bachelor parties.
Audra Lowe: Yeah. I can imagine.
Jeff Wilser: Let’s face it, strippers. And the big issue allowed or not allowed. And so the grooms, as much joking as I do about it—have fun, whatever its critical the groom abides by whatever perimeters the fiancé says.
Audra Lowe: Because that’s going to set the tone for the rest of your lives pretty much, right?
Jeff Wilser: Yes, yes.
Audra Lowe: Okay I like that. And then dozing of when it comes to finding the videographer. Why is that? That’s a technical thing? Most guys would—pay attention.
Jeff Wilser: Okay, they really want to find out what the right lenses and frames per seconds, great but that’s not something that will make or break your wedding. So it’s not something you really have to care about.
Audra Lowe: I've got you. Okay. I can’t wait till you plan your wedding Jeff, I got to be there to help you out with this or just behind the scenes. I want to see what happen.
Jeff Wilser: The mega event, look forward at page six.
