Hi, I am Steve Turano and welcome to this edition the body performance. Today, I would like talk to you a little bit about metabolism. You hear a lot people will say my metabolism is down or I want to elevate my metabolism, but they are not going up sure what they are talking about. Here is what it is, when it comes to weight loss, we think of metabolism in terms of the breakdown of food or calories into glucose and glycogen that is what we need to think in terms of metabolism.
Now, how do you elevate your metabolism? The best way to do it is through exercise because exercise consumes energy or calories. Now, what happens is when you exercise your body requires more energy, so what happens is the food and calories that you take in get broken down into glucose and the glycogen and then into ATP. These are usable energy sources by the body. So, the more you exercise, the more your body breaks down food into glycogen, glucose and ATP that is metabolism food is being metabolize into usable energy, as you exercise more you require more energy. Exercise less you do not need more energy, therefore metabolism of food slows down, your caloric consumption decreases and you do not loss weight.
So, that is what you think about when in terms of metabolism. Exercising more so your body begins to breakdown food to create more energy. That energy is then being utilized in the form of exercise.
I will see you next time. Love your body.
