Male1: He constants why what else can he do. It is a bit like Jim Clark I could not I understand when I want to go quickly, but you know he is very good.
Male2: I watch him testing it is over zone and the particularly going through back it is very fast right, left, right sequence of corners and the speed that he carries into the corner I mean I stood nothing. I do not believe what I have seen. He is so fast into the corner.
Johnny Herbert: Well, it is nothing sort of extra special it is just the way that he control as the car mass with the strive to win. Instead wear I think the majority of drive that I have known and some like diamond I know David got hold as well and make the hacked in actually the same. When they break you know when you change down the gears and then you might go on enough to throttle but the biggest example of that when he used to be in the middle of a corner he struck the movement with so quick. And it is always on the throttle when Michael has this break in change in down then it is constantly on draft straight away.
Jonathan Palmer: Even if every driver was driving a white car with a white helmet we could still just about to see the technique of Michael Schumacher. It would not be easy though and be get better much idea. We need to look at data recordings, taken from the controls. From the stirring, particularly this throttle and also across the breaks. And we have rear opportunity to obtain data from the British grown pre-qualifying from both Michael Schumacher and Johnny Herbert’s car. This blue trace is a throttle. When it rides to the top it full throttle and so now, we can see it exact the building up in section of flat out running.
Before then lifting off and then breaking down for the next the corner. It is important with the flow of one car to be progressive with the throttling. So we do not see it just going vertically up, we see it progressively increasing and that particular important through this corner, bridge corner because that is taken up 160 miles an hour and technique because only important to save time. Michael Schumacher approaches his own full throttle with the blue line in about a 160 miles an hour. Easy back and then he is progressively increases to be in full throttle on the exit. A full then lifting abruptly and cause the break from for private.
Now comparing these with Johnny Herbert to throttle position we can see that in fact Herbert keeps on full throttle for longer certainly know lacking in bravery but then he has much bigger lift to slow the car down more if full slightly raggedly increasing it but the full throttle the game. Now looking at the speed trace, the blue line of Michael Schumacher shows his speeding increasing all the way out to 160 miles an hour and then in fact it really rather level off all the way through the corner hovering around the 160 miles an hour point before dropping abruptly way game as he breaks up primary.
Now looking at Herbert speed trace he is little slower out of the previous corner but gradually makes some ground and so he is virtually as fast on a very approach to bridge. But because of that match bigger lift on the throttle his speed then drops down quite significantly. He is 5 miles an hour slower in the middle of the corner, now looking at the steering trace we can see just how close to the limit the drivers are. On the approach to the corner, the trace is fairly smooth but then in the middle of the corner we can see from the zigzag lines just how much correction Schumacher having to make for tiny slice that contact you can see not obviously anyway from the outside of the car.
Now looking at Johnny Herbert steering input on this straight it is much the same but in the middle of the corner he is not so near the edge and so the trace is smoother. As a result on this corner alone Schumacher was two tenth a second faster than Herbert and in fact in qualifying over the whole lap beat him by one and half seconds or 100 meters at the end of the land.
Michael Schumacher I think the main ability I have is that I have good feeling for the limit, a very consisting feeling for the limit that I am able to run the car for almost 100% on the limit. And that is probably the different in style where someone has the ability to do that in the entry of the corner. But not meet corner and then the exit again all the other way around that I can almost do this so with the way around to corner.
