Hello everybody and welcome to BluePhoenix.tv! And in today’s video, we are going to be talking about Microsoft ActiveSync.
Now, a lot of you Windows Mobile fans out there, who do not know what ActiveSync is. And today, we are going to be talking about two specific features. The explore feature that allows you to explore things on the device, the file structure of that device. And the Add/Remove Programs feature within ActiveSync that allows you to remove and add programs from your computer that was on your Windows Mobile Device.
So first, we are going to talk about explore. So if you are in ActiveSync, you can click Explore button and it will bring up your My Documents folder on your device. Now this is very cool because if you have pictures or ringtones or other type of data that you want to put on to your phone, all you have to do is drag and drop it into you’re my Documents folder here and you will be able to get those files over into your phone.
You can also click on My Windows Mobile-Based Device, and it will bring up your Root Menu of your Windows Mobile-Based Device. All right, so it gives you Application Data, stuff on your Storage Card, Program Files, My Documents, Documents and Settings, Trusted and Windows.
So, if you are going to go into your Storage Card, it is going to show everything on your Storage Card which is really cool. You have all your documents that we were just in. Program Files, which will be all the files that install when you install your programs. And then of course, your Windows folder.
I wanted to point out something in your Windows folder that is really cool, because if you wanted to add or remove programs manually from the device, you can go to in the Windows, Start Menu and then Programs and delete the programs or drag and drop .exe files that are capable of running on a Windows Mobile Device. And into that folder, and that will allow you to basically install a program, say if you did not have a CAB file or it was the just the exe, you could do it that way.
I am going to go over here back to the ActiveSync window. To click on Tools and go to Add/Remove Programs, it is going to retrieve application data from the mobile device. Once it has done that, you will be able to see all the applications that you have installed. On your device along with any programs on your computer that have not been installed to the device. So for example if you run a CAB file then install several program on the computer, but yet, you have not plugged your phone in, here it will show that.
So you scroll down. Do a check on these boxes. It will give you the option to remove them. So like for example, if I wanted to remove CRCs Flashlight. All I have to do is select that and click on Remove and it would remove the program from my device. However, when I am going to do that? So, I am going to click on OK.
Now, going back over here to the Windows Directory, which is loaded, all you really need to do is go to your Start Menu, then click on Programs and it will show you all of the programs on your Windows Mobile Device. You wanted to delete something, you could right click on it and just click Delete. You want to add something, just drag it from each folder that each contained in, into here and it will add into your program mainly.
Like I said, just to show a demonstration that how to add and remove programs from your device in ActiveSync and explore your device with ActiveSync.
