Okay, let us close out of these and remember when you are moving from one site to another in expression web, it is a good practice to close the site you are working on and choose open site to open the next one.
So let us open this website about a Los Angeles film director. Now again, here you will see all of the files and folders have opened in the folder list in expression web. This site is a little bigger and more complex that the last one we have looked at. So you will see multiple directories, and multiple pages, but the action of opening a page is still the same. All I have to do is double click on a filename and notice too that that folder list is repeated here in the bottom left. If that is not open on your screen, you can always find it under the task paint’s menu by choosing folder list.
This is a handy reference to all of the files in your site. It is also a key place to organize the files and folders in your site. So for example if you want to move a file from one folder to another or you want to rename a folder or a file on website, you should always do it in the folder list because then expression web will make sure that any links or image references are also adjusted to reflect the name change. This site was also laid out with CSS, but instead of absolute positioning, this site is as relative positioning and floats to better fill the screen. So when I preview this page on a browser, notice that as I move the browser in and out, I get that same effect that the layout area stays in the center of the page so that it better fills the browser window.
This site was created using one of the templates that comes with expression web. I did that on purpose so I could show you that future. You can find the templates when you choose file new website and select the templates option. As you will see here, there are number of predesigned websites. These are not just singles pages, but multiple page site designs that you can use to start your website.
I am just going to close that one out away and then come back to the one I have already filled in with some content. This site uses expression web, dynamic web template future. So it is base on template that was included in expression web, but it is also using the template future in expression web and you can create your own templates as well as using the ones that are included. But if you go to change text in one of these templates, you will immediately realize there is something a little different about these pages. Notice that my cursors are circle appears and even though I am clicking around, I cannot select that text. So if I change the name or change the color here, I cannot do it here.
In contrast, in this part of the page, I can select the text and I could change the color if I wanted to. So simply selecting that text moving over here, I could click to choose my color options and let us say, make that a darker burgundy so that it shows up better on the page.
Why can I change the text up here, that is because this select of the page is lock. That may seem like a limitation on this page, but it is really a great advantage. Let me show how this works.
So this default.htm page that I am looking at who is generated from this master.dwt page. So if I open this page, now you will see all that is on this page are the elements that I was not able to change on the last page. But look at this, I can change them just fine here.
Now if I want to change this color, I can just click on the arrow and change it just like I did on the previous change. And when I save this page, watch what happens. First, I am saving the style sheet because of course expression web is automatically creating CSS whenever I apply a new color or make a similar change. But second, you will see that expression web is offering to change every page that was generated using this dynamic web template. This is an incredible time saver because I can literally change eight pages at once just by changing this template file. When I click yes, that changes applied to all of the pages that use this template. So if I switc
