Rebecca Brayton: Hi! I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com. And today Jason Brommet of Microsoft will be showing students how to do their homework more quickly and efficiently.
Jason Brommet: That’s right. I’m going to go through today a little bit of the traditional PC form factor and traditional applications that we’re all used to but then how that has now spread and so what I’ve got to open here is Microsoft Office Window. And traditionally and certainly is back in school, everything was paper-based and so Office Window really takes that form factor, extends it into the digital age so you can see here through the lock in navigation there’s a number of notebooks that are created. Across the tops is sections.
Here, I created a scenario that says my schoolwork. But I know that I’ve got a project that I need to do on Shakespeare. And so it created a sub page for online research. What that does is it both captures that screen image but also gives you the tag and where all that came from. So that when it’s time to go back and publish and offer that report, you no longer need to try to remember that. Taking at one step further and harnessing the introduction of some of the new technologies today is moving from the PC form factors in the windows mobile platform. I can capture my notes directly on my mobile device and then sink it directly with my windows extending the office experience now from the PC to the mobile device and now to the web, there’s something called Office Live Workspace. And this is a free service that allows students or parents and certainly small businesses as well to be able to share and collaborate online.
In this scenario, I have to create a presentation on Shakespeare. I’ve got to office online and located a template for Powerpoint where you can see the very traditional Powerpoint structure of slides but without having to open Office. And so anyone who doesn’t have Office on the PC is still able to go in and view this directly within their web browser where it really becomes powerful as the integration directly with Microsoft Office. It’s going to now open Microsoft Office Powerpoint as the traditional application on my computer. It’s going to open that file from the workspace that I’ve uploaded. And now, I’m going to be able to create, edit, and author any of the content directly within this Powerpoint presentation.
Once I’ve gone through and done with my work, I’ve got classmates that I need to share this with in order to get the report finished. And what you see here is what we refer to as the Office Live add I and so this is a free download available that allows you to both open and save files directly to your office live workspace.
One of the interesting features within office live workspace is the activity module. Today, a lot of people are familiar with Facebook and the ability to go online, understand who is logging in, logging out. The activity panel actually allows you to keep track with that. And then also to go and set up email notification so today very much the same with Facebook does. So again, this is a harness in the power of the mobile devices, those emails may come through with my mobile phone. And so again harnessing the power of a PC, traditional applications, the web as well as the mobile device that have an absolutely integrated and similar experience.
