Martin Venderwood: The more than one million Canadians living with Moderate-to-Severe Psoriasis, the chronic and often debilitating inflammatory skin disease, now have renewed sense of hope with a new targeted treatment option. Doctor Ronald Vender is a Canadian Dermatologist who has seen first hand the positive effects of Stelara a treatment that offers patients both convenient dosing and the potential of significant skin clearance. Patients need only one injection of the treatment every twelve weeks as opposed to other weekly or even daily treatments, as well, Stelara has demonstrated a high level of efficacy throughout its clinical studies.
Dr. Ronald Vender: I am sure my patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis are quite excited about the release of Stelara because now they have a new option to treat their disease in a very safe and convenient way. In clinical trials, two-thirds of patients within three months showed a 75% reduction in their signs of Psoriasis.
Martin Venderwood: In addition to improvements in physical symptoms, Phase 3 trials also demonstrated clinically meaningful improvements in quality of life measures. Christine Jackson is the Executive Director of the Canadian Skin Patient Alliance, an organization that provides education, information and advocacy on behalf of all Canadian skin patients.
Christine Jackson: Beside from the physical marks that Psoriasis sufferers bear, there are also psychosocial effects, there is social stigma attached with having this disease and people tend to isolate themselves, have depression. Given, how much of an impact, access to a medication like this can have in a psoriasis patient's life. We at Skin Patient Alliance are going to actively advocate to governments across the country that they provide easy access to medications like this, to patients with psoriasis.
