Cindy: Well, the Celik Family is all seated around the table and we are ready to eat so why don’t we all dig in. Thank you.
So, can you tell me a little bit about the Holidays in Mongolia that are special?
Female: One of the biggest holidays in Mongolia is Lunar New Year. It’s like our Christmas and Thanksgiving in one. Everybody gets together. We eat a lot and that’s the only time when all the members of the family get together to meet each other so it’s very special holiday in Mongolia.
Cindy: And I know that we have all of this delicious food for a dinner but what kind of food would you have for a snack like something just to kind of tie you over?
Female: Mongolian people are not very snack people like here in America I know a lot of people like to snack but Mongolian people don’t eat much snack. They usually eat bigger heavier meals. And for snacks they usually have dried cheese or milk and a lot, we’re big fans for dairy food.
Cindy: Dairy food.
Female: Oh dairy.
Cindy: Wonderful. So now, what kind of dishes are much different from America like I’m sure it was a big adjustment as far as coming from Mongolia to America, was there anything you have to get used to as far as the food?
Female: Mongolians eat a lot of meat so one of the main complements of our food is meat so coming to America was hard to get adjusted to salads and very light sandwiches and stuff like that but I think all Mongolians like heavy meals right for meals, they have to have like real hot meal, meat dish.
Cindy: As everyone continues to enjoy the meal, the taste of home reminds Odnoo’s husband Josh of a recent visit to Mongolia.
So Josh, do you and Odnoo get to travel back to Mongolia And visit family or
Josh: Yes, last summer we were there and we had a 21-day vacation. I really enjoyed it.
Cindy: Very nice, very nice and how about you John? Do you two like it to go to Mongolia often?
John: Not as much as we’d like to. It’s very long trip, it takes about a day to get there.
Cindy: Well, I want to thank you so much for welcoming us into your home. Thank you most importantly for cooking us this wonderful, wonderful food and to you two I know you helped. Thank you so much. And we hope everybody had a really great time joining us today and hopefully you’ll join as again soon. Bye for now.
