And it's testing your mountain bike. So sure it's not per ideal training but it allows me to get out there, allows me to have the kids while the spouse might not to get spouse free time and also it builds great force, when you have one or two kids in the early training and you are going up hill. So it's a great strength training thing. But get them involved. Other things that you can do is if you go out for a run, have your kids bike next you, get them interested in the races you are doing, tell them about what this distance is, let introducing to Triathlon, show a film of some sort of a previous race or something like that. Triathlon is not the most spectator friendly sport and that's why I call those people that come out and support, you professional spectators because that's what they are because it's a hard day for your spouses or friends to go out and support you like that. So try to get them as interested as possible on what you are doing.
Another thing is if you go to the track or if you go to the pool, maybe get your spouse to come time you. That's a great way to get them involved. If they see you going around the track and like, “Wow! Look at how fast my honey is running” or something like that or, “Look at how fast my wife is swimming” or something like that. Get them involved and then they feel like they are almost like helping you try to reach your goal.
Another thing that for my long rides, I coach several people that have families. And one of the things I have them do with our main athletes is I’ll have them bike 60, 70 miles and the family would drive that 60, 70 miles and they will have picnic or something like and then they all drive back together as a family. So during that hour or ten while the family is driving he is at least getting something done, time wise. So they both like they are getting benefits because they are going to come back and have family time together not at the picnic but also in the drive back and that's has worked really well.
Work, exercise at work is probably one of the hardest things to do, especially if there is no shower at work because you come back in the afternoon and you kind of, stink a little bit but now seriously get work involved, let work understand what your goals are. Maybe try to have work change your schedule from eight to four to ten to six so that you do a couple of things so that you can do a couple of workouts in the morning. Another thing that, I have two of my we are able to do at work is they have even to work longer Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday so that they can get Wednesday afternoon off and typically the problem with us with our 40 hours week is that we put all the training in the weekends because that's all we have time for as far as put on major training where I would love, I love having on Wednesday good effort and maybe not having a hard Saturday and Sunday and there you separate your hard days; one day on Wednesday and one day on the weekend.
The people that these people work for, they are supportive. They want us support you at work. Why? Pay less in health care because you are going to be healthier and you probably going to be more productive at work itself. It's surprising how many the bosses of athletes said, I coach and come back, and say, okay that's cool, you know that's great, let's do that. One person -- my roommate actually about six or seven years ago, he made amateur team to go to World Championships in Perth. He’s like Wess I don't know if I can get away from work, I have already used a lot of vacation time, it's going to take me two weeks going to Perth, Australia and back and everything.
So he went to work anyway and as it turned out, they paid for his airfare to go. So here he was -- he is like all distraught like, oh my gosh, I don't know if I am able to go and they pay for his airfare because they are so happy to brag about, “Hey I have got a guy whose is going to world championships”. Exercise at lunch and if you have four or five people, especially at work that helps motivate you, get you put to the door, typically you start hav
