Joe Dinoffer: Next comes a game where we focus on both drop shots and helping players learn to run and accelerate faster then they may be accustomed. I call it Dynamic drops. Let's take a look.
So now I will feed the ball, the ball lands in the service box and if too hard to feed, you can reject it. But you have to say reject before you hit the ball. If you miss the drop shot, you lose the point. Then you have to run back toward the base line and then move in.
Speaker: With our racket or our feet?
Joe Dinoffer: Racket or feet, it's up to you.
Speaker: Alright.
Joe Dinoffer: Ready, stand on the service line. Stand on the service line, one ball, go. Play out the point then you play out the point, now the score is 1-0. And that will do five serves, I pick one, and then they will serve, then you will serve, then they will serve first team to win 21.
And after the drive shot, the whole court works, you can hit to the doubles valleys, deep, hard, soft, whatever you want. Very aggressive, very fast paced. The name of this drill is Dynamic Drops.
Here we go, forward, drop, and --
Now let's move to a variation of the game I like to call Black Hole. The idea in this drill is to encourage singles players to just keep the ball out of the middle of the court.
Alright, in this drill called Black hole, alright, we could draw a circle around you but we want for now, we have that choice. The idea is to miss them. You are getting away from the middle. If they hit the ball over the net, they win the points for their team, they don't have to hit a winner.
If they happen to hit a winner, its worth three points. When they do hit it over the net, they switch with their partner. That's it, ready down some hit. Here we go.
You can screw the one with that, it's a little tip. Don't leave with this.
One-nothing. Zero serving one, your serve now it's in hit, and here we go. All volleyers get involved. Oh your seat. It has to stay on the seat. That's the rule. Here we go, the score is 2-0.
The score is one serving two. To hit it, first ball went it, they switch, they win one point because the first shot was in. Switch, now it is two all, and we will play match points because we have explained the drill enough, so we can move on to some other activities. Here we go, now it's a hit.
And see it - one of the volleyers can hit the racket on the ball.
Great going and you can see how effective this was, they were playing wonderful tennis.
Female speaker: What's the purpose of that guy there?
Joe Dinoffer: The purpose of that is that if they hit through this person, all they have to do is volley it over the net to win the point. If they volley a winner it's worth three points. So it is a deterrent to then hitting into the middle of the court.
Rather this is intermediate and above drill and we want them to hit down the line cross court angles, lobs, short, chips, and so on. Alright let's move on.
