Next thing we will talk about is when the ball is on the ground. Opposing players cannot touch the goalie stick if you are inside the cylinder, imaginary cylinder that goes up around the crease. If there is no possession of the ball and you are outside the crease, opposing players can check your stick.
If the ball is on the ground outside the crease and I have the ball clamped, players are still allowed to check my stick outside the crease. Once I pick up the ball, they are not allowed to check my stick. I am considered in the crease as long as my foot is inside the crease or touching the line. In this scenario, right now, a player cannot check my stick. Also, once the ball is inside the cylinder, a player cannot ever touch the goalie stick.
Once I make a safe and have the ball on my stick, if I am throwing an outlet pass. And, I hit a player’s stick on the pass or on the follow through. That would be interference and a free clear. So good thing to teach your goalie is when he makes a pass, is to follow through with the pass and if there is a player there and he hits him that is technically considered interference.
