In my last video, I showed you how to create 3D objects, in this video, I am going to show you how to motion track those 3D objects to video using free software. And, the project files can be found here if you want to follow along.
So, what we are going to do is we are going take a short video like this and add a 3D object to it that follows the motion of the video camera. And to do this, we are going to need three free programs. The first one is called Vudu Motion Tracker, so if you do a Google search with that, it should take you to their homepage where you can download and install the program. It is available for both Windows and Linux.
The next program that we are going to need is a free video editing program called virtualdub and just do a Google search with that and you should also be able to download and install it. And then, the last program that we are going to need is what I covered in my last tutorial, it is blender which creates 3D objects so just go ahead and download and install that one if you have it already.
So, once you have all three of these programs installed, open up virtualdub, go to file, open video file, and select the video that you are wanting to motion track. Then go to file, export image sequence and we are going to export it as a series of target picture files, and this is going to convert the entire video of picture files. And, I just created a project folder to keep all these files in, so then open up Vudu and go to file, load sequence and select the very first picture file in the sequence of picture files. And then, once you select the first one, and click open it should automatically load the rest, then change the move type or rotation or free move and click okay.
Now, go to file, load initial camera and change the type to whatever type of video you had. For instance, I have 69 high definition and then click okay and click the track button and it should start tracking the video. And once you see this dialogue box, you want to click yes but I am just going to click no for the second time, then go to file, save, and save it as a blender type of script to the folder that you are keeping all the project files in. And then, select export all, click okay, and open blender, and you want to delete everything from the stage, so just hit A twice and then hit the delete button to erase everything.
Now, change the view to text editor, right click, and select open, and open up the blender type of file, now right click on that and select execute script. And now, if you change back to the 3D view and hit zero on your pattern camera view, it should see all the motion tracking have gone. Now, if you hit F10 on your keyboard at the bottom of your screen, you should see an animation box just change the end frame to the number of frames that were target pictures that you have, then click the Do C click box.
Now, to add the background image, go to view, background image, use background image, and click load and select the very first target picture file that we have. Then click the sequence box and the auto-refresh box and change the number of frames to number of target of pictures you have. Now, just hit the spacebar and you can add an object, I am just going to add a monkey face, and I am going change the different—to the different views to resize the object.
For more information on how to do this, just watch my previous tutorial on how to create 3D objects. And, I am just going to move this to the place that I want in the video, then I am going to hit the spacebar again and add a lamp like I am going to add a sunlight. And, I am going to change the views again and put it to where—put the sunlight to where I think it would be in the original video file. Then change the window to the video sequence editor, go to add images and select all of the target files by hitting control A and add all those to row one of the sequence editor. Then, go to add, scene, select scene, and add that to row tw
