Motorola MOTO U9 - Review
This is Phone Arena’s video review of the U9. Although it is not a PEBL it has the same design language with rounded edges and glossy front surface. Here is hidden the OLED display and below it appears music controls which show only when the player is on. Unfortunately, the display is absolutely unusable outdoors during the day. Regretfully the unique opening mechanism is gone and you’d have to open the U9 as in any other clamshell.
On the inside we are disappointed by the black surface which doesn’t really fit the design. The 2-inch display is okay but as the external one it is far from perfect outdoors. At least this one remains readable. The keys are not the biggest ones we’ve seen either but are okay to press and overall didn’t cause any problems.
U9 runs on the Linux, Java software. It is nothing extraordinary but is a neat system which works just fine. The phone book is easy to use and has plenty of options including visualization of the zodiac sign after entering the birthday. The organizer also has plenty of options. The calendar for example has 12 event types including subject location, period and all other necessary fields. Don’t expect wonders from the camera. Its quality is mediocre even for a 2-megapixel unit and should be used only for snapping photos during the day when there is lots of light. It is totally unusable in dark environments.
When it comes to music playback things are better although not rocker, the U9 is a music friendly clamshell. It filters the music by a few criteria and the now playing interface has album you want to cover. In order to perform another action such as writing an SMS for example the music player can be minimized or it can remain playing while the show close then controlled by the external keys.
Overall we’d like the model U9. It depends on your taste if it worth getting. If you're looking for a pretty phone but don’t want just another slim clamshell which will look like all the rest this one would definitely catch your attention. Well, it doesn’t have the greatest multimedia features and some may not like the black color when opened but it is a neat phone with good system. Visit PhoneArena.com for more.
