This Phone Arenas Video Review of the new Motorola Razr maxx Ve cell phone from Verizon Wireless. The Maxx Ve cell phone is an update to the standard razor cell phone that was introduced almost two years ago. The front of the phone features a large 160 x 120 pixel, 65000 color display.
Above it there is a two megapixel camera with flash with touch sensitive music playback buttons on the bottom. The left side of the phone features the volume buttons with a smart button that can be use for various tasks such as the speakerphone. Below it is a mini USB port. On the right side is the voice command button.
Turning the phone over is the single speaker, on the back where the speakerphone, ring tones and MP3 music is played through. Removing the battery cover reveals where the Micro SD Card slot is. The maxx can hold up to a two gigabyte memory card. The battery is a 900 MAH battery that can provide up to ten days of standby time or a little over three hours of talk time.
Opening it up the maxx is very easy. On the top of the flip is the large 2.2 inch 320 x 240 pixel 2VG display. This display is capable of showing up to 65000 colors. On the center of the hinge is a two-step camera button. This acts in the same way as real digital camera by first pressing the button down half way to focus on the object and then the full way to actually take a picture.
The keypad is black plastic with white lettering, it aluminates blue backlit in dark conditions. The keys are laid out very well and are easy to use. To take a picture using the maxx you must first press the camera button which is located on the keypad.
Camera options include resolution, auto focus, self timer, flash, brightness, white balance, shutter sounds, color effects, fun frame and switch storage device which allows you to choose between the Micro SD Card or the phones internal memory. To take a picture you press down half way on the auto focus button. This will focus in on the image. You then press down the full way to take the picture.
Once image is captured you can either save, send, or erase the image. We are going to save this picture. For video record mode you press the camera button again. Available options during video record is brightness, white balance, duration which you can choose short, medium fit to video message which is 15 seconds or long for the maximum memory.
There's also the resolution which the highest resolution is 320 x 240. You can use the flash. You can have that set on which acts as a camcorder light. And there is also color effects and switch storage for either recording on the Micro SD Card or the phones internal memory.
For video recording there is no auto focus so you just press the center button on the navigational pad to begin the recording. When you're done recording press the center button again and then you can either save, send, or erase the video.
The maxx is capable of playing back MP3 audio files that are located on the Micro SD Card. To playback the MP3 music you go onto your main menu then get it now music and tones and then my music. Music is categorized by genres, artists, albums, songs and playlist. We’re choosing albums you can then select the particular CD that you wish to play, and then a song located on that CD.
While the song is being played you can adjust the volume. The display shows the current song information. Closing the flip will show the same information on the front to phone that’s also aluminates the touch sensitive music playback control buttons. That’s allows you to play and pause, rewind, fast forward, skip ahead and skip back.
Overall the music playback on the maxx is very good unfortunately the speaker is located on the back of the phone. Placing the phone down on a surface will some what muffle the sound because of this we recommend turning the phone upside down to reveal speaker on the top this will illuminate the muffled sound.
Overall, we were quite pleased with the quality of the Motorola maxx Ve. The large external display is one of the largest that we have seen on a current flip phone. The two megapixel auto focus camera takes very good pictures with the flash being one of the brightest flashes that we have seen to date on a camera phone.
The internal display shows text and images very well and the keypad is face well and it’s easy to use. The overall color quality on the maxx was also one of the best other than the Samsung 8990 which currently goes for about $100.00 more. Our only true disappointment with the maxx is at the phone still uses the same Verizon user interface that has been around for over two years now. You have get it now, messaging, contacts, recent calls and settings and tools.
We would have like to have seen the maxx use one of the newer flash UI interfaces that the LG and the Samsung models have been using. Unfortunately the maxx Ve only comes with the older Verizon user interface.
